In Return of the Jedi, the Emperor had total knowledge of the Rebel's plans. Now surely Ben and/or Yoda knew this and could have told Luke to tell the Alliance about it. Surely Ben/Yoda would have realized that Luke and all future Jedi's would realize that they need the Rebel Alliance.

RE: Did Yoda/Obi Wan not alert Luke to the Power of the Emperor
what makes you believe that Yoda and Obi-Wan would have known about the Emperor's plan to destroy the Empire? Through the first three movies he was able to keep them in the dark about the fact that he was a Sith Lord and had started a war so that he could ascend to power.
In any event, had they warned Luke then the rebellion may have cancelled their plans. Luke would not have been able to confront Vader, the Second Death Star would have been built etc etc etc
As Obi-Wan said, sometimes you have to spring the trap

RE: Did Yoda/Obi Wan not alert Luke to the Power of the Emperor
why would Yoda or Kenobi know anything about the Emporer's plans?
Far as i know they had no idea he was building another Death Star let alone that it was a trap for the Rebels.
I don't follow any of the logic in the post, i expected the title was about not warning Luke that he was an incredibly powerful sith.
Yoda tried to warn him of that part, but he was dying and ran out of time to do so in any detail.
Kenobi had never witnessed this power but if the PT had been writen at the time he might have said something like "oh yea, btw, the emporer is not to be taken lightly. 20 years ago he beat yoda's little green *** and sent him packing to this slimmy mud hole. I know it sux, i wouldn't even visit him here, even tatooine is better than this place. It has some civilization and even a few watering holes."
