Welcome to the Official Classic Trilogy Scene Write/Rewrite Contest!

Contest Host: Jedimasterbac

The idea for this game was sparked by several members of the forum who have had some fun writing and rewriting scenes from the Classic Trilogy that people have had a lot of fun reading as well.

This is where anyone who has ever said to themselves, “Hmm, I think this scene could be improved” and “I’m a pretty creative person” can show us all what they’ve got! Take a moment to read the guidelines below and then be sure to sign up for the game during the appropriate time!

As stated above, Jedimasterbac is going to pick a scene from the Classic Trilogy to write or rewrite. There is no sign-up list as posting a scene write or rewrite automatically makes you a contestant. However, you only have four days to post your scene.

1. The possible scene rewrite ideas that we give to you come in a variety of subjects, but they all relate to the Classic Trilogy or the Classic Trilogy era. With that said, one week we might do a serious one such as “Write a scene where Palpatine speaks to Vader about the discussion of the Death Star on Coruscant, showing how angry he is” and the next week we could say “Write a scene where Palpatine learns of the destruction of the Death Star while sitting on the toilet. We want this to be fun, not just serious. However, there will be more serious topics than there will be funnier and lighthearted ones.

2. Contestants have four days to submit their scene into the thread where it can be discussed by the members of the board. Once the deadline has passed, no late entries will be accepted and members will send their votes for their favorite scene to me via PM. You will have two days to submit this vote. On the seventh day of the week (four days for writing and two for voting make the six days), the winner will be announced.

3. Please do not PM members asking them to vote for you. We feel that this takes the fun out of the spirit of friendly competition and we wouldn’t want you to get into trouble. Remember, Mass PMing is a bannable offense.

4. If you have questions regarding the scene topic, please post them in the thread rather than PMing me. This way, those with the same or similar questions will have an answer as well. I will answer as soon as I can.

5. If you do not win the competition, do not fret. You will not be banned and you will be able to try again during the next round if you so choose.

6. The winner of the contest receives VIP with colors for three days.

7. Sign-ups for the next competition will begin one week after the preceding one ends. The winner of a game can participate in the next game unless it gets to be a case where the same person wins each time. If this happens, I will prevent those people from playing two or three games just to make things fair.

8. When the new round begins, a new scene will be chosen and the above steps will be repeated once again.

The First Challenge

Your first scene write/rewrite challenge is to write a scene where the Imperial Senate is dissolved. That is all I will tell you, as I don't want to put restrictions on this. Happy writing, and remember you have four days to post the scene!

The deadline has been extended to Saturday, December 30, 2006.

I'm in as well, however you might want to extend the deadline for the entries a bit cuz I think creative writing in some cases might take longer than 4 days. Plus it would give more of chance for others to post comments, etc. Idunno, ur the boss so you think about it wink

PS-you might want to check the spelling of your name and mine in the initial post

Four days is more than if enough time, in my opinion. However, this is the first round which means its also the first try, so if the Mods and I feel it needs more than four days we can change that.

Also, our names have been edited. I don't know how I screwed that one up.

So we need to have it done by the 27th? And then just post it in here on that day?

Due to many people undoubtedly being on vacation at the moment and a lack of current entries, I have extended the deadline for the submissions to this Saturday, December 30, 2006. From this time forward, all deadlines will be one week after the start of a new round.

Good luck! happy

Senator Bail Organa peered at his reflection in the transparisteel glass of the rear window port as his speeder made its twists and turns through the dismal Coruscanti rain. Time and troubles had greyed his hair and his features. He motioned his hand in a wave, and the forward partition window port slid down.
"Driver, have you received any communications from the Tantive IV?"
"I'm sorry Sir, none as of yet. However, Senate traffic control has ordered us to make haste or we will be late for this morning's proceedings." The pilot replied.
Bail grimaced. He had allowed his only daughter to take his place on board the Tantive IV as it met with the Alliance's agents on Boz Pity. As it were, the Empire had been watching him intently these past few weeks, and making themselves all the more obvious at doing so. Any move on his part outside his normal routine would certainly arouse their suspicions into action, but he had stalled for enough time this morning to get word on his daughter's well-being. The overhead audio system toned, breaking his ruminations.
"Senate complex coming up, Sir."
Bail nodded. The once great forum of the galaxy had decayed into a stiffled and silent procession of muted officials that paraded in front of the Emperor, seeking favor by bowing down in their hoverpods and making ostentatious praises of the Empire, and of the Emperor himself. Each day in session, they filed in and pledged their fealty to the Empire, and were thus instructed as to how their planet system would be used to serve the greater good. There was no room for discussion or dissent, at least not in session. The whole ceremony, Bail supposed, was to create the opinion that the Galactic Empire was still ruled by the people, with a strong leader as its defender, pushing the galaxy towards greatness by trampling corruption. If only, he thought. More and more star systems had pledged themselves in secret to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, even while playing face in the Senate. It was foolish to think the Emperor unaware of their dealings. But for the moment, Palpatine showed no concern.
The speeder coach rounded 500 Republica and filed in with the slow moving traffic pressing for the Senate complex. As the speeder came to a halt and drifted, Bail peered through the forward port into the driving rain. Ahead, rear panel warning lights flickered as vehicles began to attempt backing up so they could break line.
"What is happening up there?" Bail aksed his pilot.
"I don't know Sir. People are trying to break line out of the line for some reason."
"Take the high lane and move forward, I want to see."
"Right Sir."
The speeder engaged in reverse and sprang forward, cruising around other transports that were attempting to do the same. As Bail's coach got closer to the Senate complex he saw the reason for the calamity. Two Victory-class Star Destroyers had taken up positions over the Senate complex, with a third hovering down from orbit. Dozens of grey metal LAAT's swarmed down, offloading no doubt hundreds of Stormtroopers.
"What is happening? Comlink the Senate and see what is going on up there!" Bail ordered. The pilot flipped the comm switch and began soliciting a status update.
"Your Grace, they say all is well and that we should report to the Senate complex immediately." The pilot replied, waiting for instruction.
Ahead a standard Imperial blockade was forming; civilian speedercraft were being turned away, and Senatorial crafts were being cordoned off to the side and boarded by troopers. It was clear to Bail that the Senate was finally being dissolved and its senators arrested. The last great symbol of the Old Republic was being swept away right before his eyes. Several kilometers ahead, an Aqualishian shuttle balked to the side and revved its forward drives in an attempt to break away from the LAAT. Seconds later two bright green cannon blasts tore into its ventral panel in mid flight. The shuttle opened up into a flower of disintegrating metal and fire, spilling its burning occupants out into the open air.
"Turn the speeder around! Get us out of here!" Bail shouted, and the speeder took a sickening nose dive from the higher lane and peeled off left back towards the direction it had came.
"Shall I make haste for the space dock and Tantive III?" The pilot queried.
"No, I'm sure the Empire has it under lock and key by now. We need to ditch this speeder and find somewhere to hide until this is over. We'll have to find a civilian transport back to Alderaan as soon as possible." Bail answered, ramming his fist down into the seat. So now the great Galactic Empire, the supposed last bastion of stability against the treachery and corruption that had been heralded in the days of the Clone Wars, had finally tipped its hand and shown what it was capable of.

Later, the Imperial dignitary Janus Greejatus bowed deeply before his Majesty Palpatine, waiting to be acknowledged.
"Report, my friend." Palpatine slowly spoke.
"The Senate is fully occupied, your Majesty. Our Intelligence section has begun their questioning, and almost all the suspect traitors have been identified." Janus spoke, his voice faltering.
"Almost?" The Emperor's face hardened.
"Several key Senators have eluded our grasp, your Eminence. Senators Bail Organa of Alderaan, Mon Mothma of Chandrila, and Garm Bel Iblis of Corellia failed to report this morning. Their space transports are under surveillance, my Lord." Greejatus steeled himself for the worst as the Emperor's eyes glared into him.
A sliver of a smile played at the corners of Palpatine's lips, followed by an unnerving chuckle.
"It is of no importance, Janus. They will learn the price of their betrayal soon enough."
The Emperor pressed a button on his throne console and swiveled around to gaze upon the 3 meter high holocam representation of the Empire's newly created superweapon. Massive, spherical and cold in its design, it sent a chill down Janus' spine.

The rusted and battered space freighter Bail had gained passage upon touched down on the landing platform just west of the Palace at Aldera. A flotilla of security transports waited below to take custody of Bail when he emerged from the vessel. His senior officer and trusted friend Captain Colton met him on the runway.
Bail took one look at his face and knew something terrible had happened.
"What is it Captain? Tell me!" Bail was alarmed.
"It's the Tantive IV. Starfleet reports that she was found adrift, and that all her crew were killed. They say it was asteroids, but there are none between Boz Pity and Tatooine. The Empire knew what she was carrying. I'm so terribly sorry." Colton bowed his head.
Bail bit down on his own teeth, tears welling up in his eyes. Not only had he lost his beloved daughter, but maybe the galaxy's only chance for freedom as well. For the moment there was no hope left in all the galaxy.

Elsewhere a young man gathered his poncho around him and set out to meet the Jawa traders early in the Tatooine morning sun.
"Luke? Be sure and tell Owen that if he buys a translator to make sure it speaks Bocce." Aunt Beru called up from the subterranean dwelling below.
"It doesn't look like we have much of a choice, but I'll remind him." Luke answered.

Imperial Senate Dissolved in Late Night Session
Chaos erupts in several systems as a result
by Wythe Terin (IP)

500 Republica, Coruscant – The Imperial Senate was dissolved last night suddenly and unexpectedly by the Emperor himself, who personally came to oversee the proceedings. Senators, aides and officials were stunned as he stood and spoke, an uncommon occurrence in the Senate over the past decade.

“A new time has come,” said the Emperor, flanked by two Imperial Guards. “With the Rebel Alliance growing stronger and attracting more members daily, I have come to realize time is wasted with measure in a Senate. I have come to the decision to disband the Imperial Senate and station regional governors in its place.”

The pronouncement with met with several shock gasps and even a shout of protest from Senator Bail Organa of the Alderaan system, who left immediately after the announcement. In his stead followed several others, most notably Mon Mothma of Chandrila. Both Senators have been vocal protestors against the growing central powers of the Emperor in the past, receiving several warnings and harsh rebukes.

“This is shocking,” says Senator Randin My of the Textri system. “We never expected this.”

But should it have been expected? It seems the Emperor may have been hinting at this for the past decade, according to reports and other Senator’s beliefs. The revocation of Alliance-friendly Datooine’s representation in the Senate four years ago may have been the first footfall down a slippery slope of growing Imperial powers. Coupled with the growing resentment of many Senators, this does not seem an abrupt or happenstance move by the Emperor.

Senator Jhuuh Ekin of the Crodai system is grim as he exits the Senate building, shaking his head and dictating notes to his page droids. “I fear for the individual systems,” he says. “Our voices will now be lost in the Emperor’s own agenda.”

It appears his fears may come to pass. Only a few short minutes after the pronouncements, a riot occurred on Chandrila, the homeworld of Mothma. Following shortly, small fights broke out near Empire Centers on the worlds of Candalas, Naboo and Mykyr. Stormtroopers were called in to help keep the crowds under control. Several beings were arrested and called in for questioning.

The Emperor, per usual, was not available for comment and it can only be speculated what Rebel Alliance officials must think at this turn of events that undoubtedly is a crushing blow to their ill-fated movement.

“Crushing blow indeed!” Bail Organa snapped, almost heaving his datapad across the room in frustration. “Ill-fated movement – that’s what they think!”

Unable to sit still, he left the table where he had been going over the morning news. Although he had expected the article – the Senate disbandment was the hot topic all over the galaxy – his emotions had never easily been kept in check. As he went to his balcony that overlooked the Great Lake, it was easy for him to conjure up images of tyranny and an ever bleak future that the Empire – Republic – now faced.

Safe on his planet, in the palace that had been his home ever since his birth and wrapped in the plush blue robe Leia had bought him for his last Crowning Day, he remembered the day he had stood with the then-Chancellor and watched the clones march on Coruscant with the same dread he felt now. He wondered how Leia was faring, if Obi-Wan Kenobi in the desert of Tatooine had heard the news yet.

Soon, he was sure, the representative from the Empire Center would be at the door to his home, carrying another warrant to search for any Alliance friendly materials. The Emperor was swift to deal with any resentment by any Senator, and Bail was sure he had ruffled feathers with that shout yesterday and childish stomp out. Although Bail had been expecting the disbandment, he now realized how unprepared for his fear to become a reality.

Oh, he thought with if a wry grin, if the Empire could see what was hidden deep beneath his Palace, the plans and diagrams and Alliance material. He’d be sent to prison, tortured – and of course killed when his use was served. Bail knew how to keep his family safe, though.

He stood looking out as the sun rose slowly over the Western Mountains, slowly, surely, the reflection shining on the crystal water. He remembered Breha’s words, so long ago.

“You must hope,” she’d whispered to him just minutes before her passing.

He had resolved to do that, and now he remembered.

“You can disband us,” he whispered, wishing the Emperor and his lapdog, that boy who became Vader, could hear him, “but that isn’t the end.” He thought of Leia, his beautiful young daughter deep in enemy territory and offered up a prayer of thanks for her.

“No, this isn’t the end,” he said, raising his voice. “You’ll only make us stronger.”

“The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us.
I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away.”

“That's impossible! How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?”

“The regional governors now have direct control over territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.”

Bail knew fear well.

But this he was not afraid of, because fear did not crush democracy. Smiling in satisfaction, he returned to his table where the first meal had been spread out for him.

“We are not afraid,” he said, almost a prayer.
