SW actors shouldn't feel bad about their lack of Oscars. They're in good company with other greats who have missed out in favour of far lesser talents and performances.
It's a good point about what constitutes good acting. In SW, I think good acting is understanding the style of the storytelling and putting effort into convincingly playing a particular character's role in that telling. I think Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Guiness, McGregor, McDiarmid were able to appreciate that and put in excellent performances in the context of the style of the films. Portman I always felt believed herself to be a bit above this type of thing and so always came off lacklustre to me. I always felt that she fancied herself in more of your Oscar bait film, with a director who would constantly tell her how marvellous she was rather than just say "faster, more intense" once in awhile.
