Exactly, Beth. My dad is 5'8" and my mom is 5'6", and I'm 5'11", which is the height both of my grandfathers were.

Didn't Vader have a few inches added to his height because of his metal legs, and the rest of his suit as well?

The helmet alone sticks up enough to give him a few extra inches... just look at how much give seems to be in it in the Darth Bobblehead scene on Bespin. tongue

lol... I wish I never noticed that. That's all I pay attention to now when I see it. But yeah, his artificial legs are longer than his original ones, IIRC.

I actually like the idea that Luke is significantly smaller than Vader. It adds a David and Goliath feel to their final fight. I wonder if Lucas intended that.

A very early height of Vader had him at over seven feet tall.

Funnily enough, Luke is shorter than Mark Hamill. He's listed as 1.72 metres in the Databank, whilst Hamill is (or claims to be) 1.75 metres.

Still, though I agree that Luke doesn't look anywhere near a foot shorter than Vader in RotJ (lifts?) I would say Luke IS short. 1.75 metres = roughly 5'7''.

5'7'' = Short IMO. If you're a guy anyway. Though, having said that, it's all relative, I suppose.

I can go from feeling really tall one minute to feeling really short the next. It all depends on how tall the people around me are.

Oh, he's definitely short then. I hadn't done the conversion and was operating solely on the screencaps, which are...interesting in light of Luke only being 5'7''.

Vader isn't just tall, he's HUGE! I saw the Vader suit at Magic of Myth and even though it was behind glass and had no one in it, looking at it was slightly intimidating.

Hayden had too look through the grill in order to see in ROTS and he was scared he'd fall over and scratch the helmet.

You have to take into account his helmet is pretty big for his head too, it adds at least 3 inches to his height... at least. at least.

And it adds about six inches to the degree of protrusion of his face, leading to uncomfortable near-misses such as the one with Veers on the bridge. tongue One would think he would have learned to stop doing that after a couple of decades.

I was taller at 15 than Luke was at 19, he's short.

And, for comparison:

Luke Skywalker = 1.72 m = 5.64 feet
Mark Hamill = 1.75 m = 5.74 feet
Anakin Skywalker = 1.85 m = 6.0 feet
David Prowse = 1.96 m = 6.43 feet
Darth Vader = 2.02 m = 6.62 feet

I find it very fitting of a narrative how power is determined by how strong the mind is, not stature.

Yoda: "Judge me by my size do you? Whereas you should not."
