According to the Wookiepedia site, it was Vader who had ordered the deaths of Owen and Beru Lars, in the search for R2-D2 and CP30. The problem is that I don't recall Vader being on the Tatooine surface. Was he? And if he had ordered their deaths, wouldn't Lucas have made a big deal about it?

GK edit: This seems to be a topic best suited for the EU forums.

I think the new Vader novel has him ordering the deaths and watching via hologram.

RamRed, the Star Wars films are rife with communication devices that do not require the conversants to occupy the same geographical or astronomical space. Have you honestly never noticed the holograms, viewscreens and handheld communicators featured in almost every scene of every episode of the Saga? confused

I know there was a painting of Vader looking at Owen and Beru under guard when the stormies were searching the farm, but I always thought the way the deaths were described in Tales of the Mos Eisley Cantina was the canon version.

That Wookiepedia article must have been written BEFOREAttack of the Clones was released. Otherwise, like Ricky said to Lucy, theres some splaining to do. tongue

Yea, exactly. If you watch AotC, you can form a different opinion there. Maybe Vader thought that the Lars family didn't try hard enough to help his mother, giving him a good reason (in his eyes anyway) to kill them off.
