I know this has been discussed, but I can't find the thread in the Index.

Anyhow, I think the main reason people believe Obi-Wan didn't train Luke as he grew up was that it would create a disturbance in the Force strong enough to alert Vader and Palpatine to their presence.

ditto. They had to keep the twins seperate from their father, but more from Sidious. If Sid knew the child was alive, he would have made a manhunt of the century, found them and teach him secretly, and have the child kill off Vader, and then well, I think that would have gone too far....oh well

Kenobi didn't raise Luke probably because he knew he failed Anakin. In ROTS he tells Vader "I failed you", write after turned him into "Darth Bob" (Chopped off his legs and an arm.)It's okay to make fun of Vader because he was evil and had just choked his own pregnant wife.

Kenobi failed at raising Anakin. He didn't want to make the same mistake with Luke. That's why he sent him to Yoda for training.

If Leia didn't train under Yoda, at least Pink Five did.

Does anyone else besides me see the resemblance between Pink Five and Mara Jade?

Are they sisters? Cousins? Or perhaps even clones?

Your thoughts, please.

Thanks.

He didn't train Luke because he...well, was not a favourite of the family. I think he avoided tham and decided to train Luke when he met him in the canyon.

The Empire was hunting down and killing the Jedi. If the Empire found Yoda and Ben they find the twins and kill them also, or take them to Vader and Palpatine.

But neither Vader nor Palpatine knew that the twins were even born at all so there would not have been any orders to bring in any children found with Yoda or Ben,........so,... (drum roll)......any agents of the Empire probably would've killed Leia or Luke, or both. Neither Yoda or Ben wanted that to happen. Any children brought in would have to be properly identified anyway. Did DNA testing even exist in the Star Wars Universe?

What's with the term Star Wars Universe anyway? Han Solo talks about flying from one side of the galaxy to the other. Palpatine creates the first Galactic Empire. They're alking about galaxies, not the whole Universe.

In short, Yoda (no apparent last name) and Ben Kenobi didn't want to put the twins in harms' way.

It's a term for the universe that the SW galaxy is in. :P

We still don't get a real reason why Obi Wan or Yoda don't train either one, or why Obi Wan goes to look after Luke while Yoda goes off to isolation, it just happens.

If Yoda & Obi-Wan started to train Luke & Leia, then they could potentially be stronger, but then the Emperor probably would have "Felt" them sooner, and send his whole group of Hands, Dark Side Prophets, & Darth Vader himself after them.

Obi-wan, as has been said, goes off with Luke to watch over him, because he had no one else to watch over him. Leia was protected by an entire planet, as the daughter of the queen. Yoda had no reason to stick around, so he went to a location where the darkside hid his presence in the force. He hid until it was time to train Luke and Leia... though he only trained one.

The point that Obi-Wan did not have the means to care for a newborn child is also a valid one.

Obi-Wan could have raised Luke as the Jedi of old were raised, but that would make him into a Jedi of the old Order. We all saw where that order went. Something was wrong in the way the Order operated, so Yoda and Ben knew that something needed to change. Luke was brought up by good, honest people and had a morally sound character. This was important. When it came time for him to start the New Jedi Order he had all the right background to properly lead the order and make the right choices for the right reasons. This would not have happened if he was raised by Ben. If Ben raised Luke, Luke would have become another Vader/Anakin.
