I don't want to seem negative in my first thread but I have always thought that Hamil, Fisher and Ford seem incredibly disinterested in bothering to be in Jedi! Their faces seem to eminate a 'Oh, god, do I have to do this?' kind of look! Maybe it's just me, but this has niggled at me for some time.

Carrie was high during filming, Harrison wanted Han to die in ESB so he could be done, and Mark I don't think is disinterested as I think he basically carries the film until the confrontation between Luke, Vader, and the Emperor.

I don't know, maybe they got tired of playing the same characters. I know Harrison Ford didn't really want to come back for RotJ. Their acting wasn't amazing or anything, but it's pretty good. There acting is pretty solid compared to the prequel actors for the most part.

I agree with you about Mark carrying the film. He certainly conveys the most energy in the production! So, perhaps the culprits are a complacent Ford and Fisher.

This was one of the complaints when the film was first released--the cast looks like they are bored! I think they certainly were to some degree, what with the third outing in the same series and the especially banal writing that they were given that time. Ford in particular seems dull, and its well known that Lucasfilm had to do some heavy convincing to get him back (though I think much of the dullness of his character simply comes from the boring way his part was written for a lot of the film).

Yes. They do. Mark can't act unless he's directed by Kirshner, Carrie was high and Harrison was bored and wanted out of Star Wars. I think it shows in the film quite clearly.

I agree with Carrie Fisher being... shall we say INFLUENCED through the filming. I also agree with Harrison Ford not wanting to do the film period. (and who could blame him with the lack of character development) But when it comes to Mark Hamill I read in an interview he did for Starlog way back in the late nineties when the Special Editions had been released that he wasn't happy with the script either. He felt that the ending was weak and that his character got cheated by being overshadowed by Vader and his little last 15 minute long redemption.

But to mention another actor whom you all have seemed to have forgotten about. I think the only person actualy excited about being in ROTJ was Billy Dee Williams. And who wouldn't be, he got to be in a two STAR WARS Movies and he gets to blow up the Death Star. He was probably as happy as Sam Jackson was when he found out he got to have a lightsaber fight with the Emperor.

There was so many things wrong with ROTJ its pathetic. Why does Harrison Ford come down on Star Wars for his characters lack of character development, but he came back for a fourth Indiana Jones. That franchise isn't the pinacle of character development, infact, but very necessity, Star Wars has more character development as its a mythology and tskes place over an elongatd period of time

lets face it, by the time ROTJ came about the emphasis was on the special effects....the actors were just to pass the time between effects. that is why in my opinion the movies drop in quality as the special effects increased

I presume that you all have some outside source regarding the attribute to Carrie Fisher.....

alot of trilogies suffer from the fact that the everyone involved has a "lets get this over with" attitude by the time the last movie comes around (and sometimes the audience feels that way as well)

yea, Fisher was (unfortunately) snorting cocaine throughout production and Ford wanted to have Han killed off. Luke, Lando, Vader and especially Palpatine had great performances though

I think I remember her saying she was high during RotJ, but all the source I've found are only related to ESB.

SPeaking of ROTJ being not all that good. Has anyone else noticed that it has the exact same plot as A New Hope?

A New Hope is about Luke Skywalker rescuing Han, redeeming his father, resisting the Dark Side, and destroying the Empire?

Wha? Carrie Fisher was high while filming ROTJ? That certain explains her happy-happy mood we see in a bunch of her scenes >_>
