I think any form of expansion of power is seductive. I always felt the lightside was more seductive [in terms of my own choices and preferences] because helping people and maintaining a sense of wisdom gets you held in high regard by the people. The Jedi's were considered heroes by many. Everyone wants to be a hero at some time in their life.
Kids in the SW galaxy dream about being Jedi's, about the adventure it holds. Hell, even kids in our universe dream about it. I know for a fact, given the opportunity, I'd pledge myself to become a Jedi in the drop of a hat.
