I'm suprised this isn't in the top ten. It's an iconic scene even though it was kinda a rip off of the flash gordon scroll.

I think it's funny that every scene that comes up we all say "I'm suprised this isn't higher". I bet if we all had our way, every scene would be number 1. In a way, they kinda are.

I love Star Wars.

Obi-Wan is Sammy Jankus.

You mean Leonard Shelby. wink

#23 - Titles/Scroll

Didn't make my list, but a moment I will never forget. Seeing the SE re-release in the theater, opneing night, a full crowd of Star Wars fans. The theater getting dead silent on the moment of "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." then the place just going nuts when The title came up.

So does this go for all three scrolls, or just ANH's? Though its really the ANH scroll that has the huge impact, either way.

I think this scene is better in retrospect than first viewing: the entrance of the Jedi in the CT and the beginning of Luke's path down that road.

OFT. ANH (especially the Tatooine scenes) is the most improved by the Prequels, IMO.

I agree. And, as I've mentioned, Alec Guinness totally nails the sense of history behind this scene. His face when the name Obi-Wan is mentioned... didn't even need to know the exact history to know what sort of stuff might be going on for someone who was hiding out on a desert planet.

Also, I agree with the poster who commented on the 'certain point of view' scene saying it was a viewpoint that Obi-Wan needed... absolutely. Brought this up in another recent thread myself. People seem to think this is just something Obi-Wan could somehow be detached from and devious about. But in fact this is deeply personal for him. I like this scene because you get a glimpse of Obi-Wan's lingering feeling of guilt about the past (saying he was wrong to think he could train Anakin).

I actually really wish the longer version from the older script, the one that shows up in the ROTJ novelization, had stayed in. Owen being Obi-Wan's brother would be interesting... but also the stuff about Padme would have been nice to mention.

Eh... anymore it's like "oh. ha. ha." when I see it. I dunno, it just seems over-used.

I do remember being blown away by so many TIE's there were when they fought through that initial wave of them. That was the coolest thing I had ever seen in SW when I was just a youngling.

you know what sucks? I barely remember seeing RotJ in theaters and it's been only 11 years (hey, possibly to the week, as it opened on 4/24 here and I didn't see it right away... hmm...). This should count among my most favorite movie sequences ever, but apart from putting it 7th on my list (bah, should have switched it with my #3 scene) but I only have small screen memories of it. Hey, we have a banner with it *looks*

anyway... perfect candidate for yet another "should be higher" tongue but #22 in top100 scenes isn't as bad as wherever Into the Trap ended up in the Music Tournament shame_on_you
