Burning homestead?

Ok so watching ANH tonight, and seeing it on the greatest scenes countdown, I got thinking about why the homestead was torched?
I mean, the stormtroopers in EU, and even in the movies always seem very professional in routine and conduct. So why didn't they just storm the homestead? Do a search of every inch, scan and maybe even interrogate.
Did Darth Vader know personally where the droids went? Stormtroopers usually aren't that bold...

I guess I just figured they were authorized to use "any means necessary" when it came down to it...Keep in mind, they KNEW the droids would have been there-they tracked them to that specific place. There was nowhere else to go to keep looking. so assuming owen and beru resisted (most likely for Luke's protection, knowing what they knew,) their resistance was met with retaliation.
That's the way I see it...

Simple answer: Owen pissed them off. See Davin Felth's tale from Tales From the Mos Eisley Cantina.

The homestead was freaking made from clay or something....it shouldn't have been burning.

One good reason to torch the homestead is that if the Death Star plans had been stashed there, they would need to make sure they could be retrieved later.

But Darth Vader was overseeing the search for the plans himself. Darth Vader is brash, but not completely stupid. He'd rather have the plans in his own metal fist then just assuming "they were destroyed"
Usually Vader is more cautious with things that threaten him and his Empire. Even in "allegiance" by Zahn, it talks about how Vader is a sucker for military procedure and conduct.

I figured the stormies showed up, shot owen and beru, did their search, and then torched the homestead as an example.
Professional, yeah. Real professional to be shooting Rebels RUNNING AWAY on Hoth.

Yeah, it seems like the stormtroopers used a flamethrower (never shown anywhere else)
on Owen and Beru instead of blasters. Unless Owen and Beru were taking their daily vodka bath.

I don't see why they would shoot Owen and Beru, prisoners to interrogate are more useful then smoldering corpses. If they messed with them enough, they may have even learned where Luke had went with the droids.

Thats different, that was a full scale invasion. The Rebels were a thorn in the Emporers side and if they wouldn't cooperate they'd be taken care of by any means necessary. What's more professional? Destroying Yavin IV because the Rebel base was there, or shooting fleeing Rebel soldiers? Either way, the Emporer and Darth Vader wanted the rebellion taken care of. If they run, they'll regroup.

I always assumed they were still trying to convince the locals that it was Tusken Raiders and not the Empire that was going around killing everything that moves. That would make sense considering that the Empire doesn't want anymore people getting tired of the Empire's brutal ways and joining the Rebellion.
Of course that being said they probably shouldn't have burned down the house where the son of the chosen one had grown up.
Talk about the force setting things into motion. Just like that stick that han Solo snapped in ROTJ

My bet is that Owen and Beru put up a fight. That's why they were eliminated.

It's from Vader: The Ultimate Guide.
Not a comic as far as I know.

The burning homestead was put in the movie becuase Uncle George wanted
to do an homage to The Searchers, and also to make the audience care
about Luke so they would cheer when the Death Star was destroyed.

I think this "The Tuskens did it!" rationale is the best in-universe explanation.
