Lando Calrissian??? Lando Calrissian??? Where?!?!?

I was watching Return of the Jedi last night, and I noticed something that always kind of bothered/confused me. As the heroes are riding the skiff towards the Pit of Carkoon, Luke mentions to Han to stay close to him, Chewie and Lando. Now here's the thing...other than this statement by Luke, how does Han realize that Lando is on the skiff with them??? Is it explained in the novelization, or are we supposed to just assume that somebody told Han that Lando was there before that moment?

I'd have thought Chewie told him when they were in the cell together. I believe that Chewie filled Han in with pretty much everything that had happened up to then.

I should have thought of that!!! For some reason it never dawned on me that Chewie probably told more to Han in the cell than the fact that Luke was working on becoming a Jedi Knight.

Lando risked his life to his friend after putting him in that bad situation in the first place. I think that Han knew deep down that Lando would never willingly frak him over like that.

That, and Chewie must have eventually come to agree that Lando didn't have any options. Lando was correct in TESB when he stated that he had no choice...Chewie owes Han a lifedebt, and if he can then trust Lando Calrissian with Han Solo's life, that should be enough to get Han to forgive him. So, in addition to Chewie filling him in on the plan in the cell, Han must have realized that if Chewie can trust Lando, he probably could too.

The fact of Han's last memory of Lando being betrayal was sort of addressed briefly in the deleted sandstorm scene from ROTJ.
Here's a quote from the 2nd draft:
HAN
(looking dubiously at Lando, obviously
remembering his friend's betrayal and
subsequent aid)
Guess I owe you some thanks, too, Lando.
LANDO
Figured if I left you frozen like that you'd
just give me bad luck the rest of my life, so
I might as well get you unfrozen sooner or
later.
LEIA
He means "You're welcome."
LANDO
Come on, let's get off this miserable dust
ball.
With that exchange ultimately removed from the final film, we just have to assume a similar conversation took place between them at some point on their way back to the ships. Just as a sort of "no hard feelings" kind of thing.

I like this alot. The scene isn't absolutely essential, but it does help us understand why there seem to be "no hard feelings" between the two. Han saved Lando from the Sarlaac AND he loaned him the Falcon -- all without a single reference to the latter's earlier betrayal. We can fill in the blanks with our imagination -- STAR WARS is fun that way -- but it's nice to have this codified in a deleted/unfilmed-but-scripted scene.
I also like the idea that in their shared cell in Jabba's Palace, Chewie fills Han in on the goings-on since he's been in hibernation. I like to imagine that when Chewie gets to the part about his strangling Lando in the Cloud City corridor, and Leia berating Lando rather than going after Boba Fett immediately, Han mumbles: "That's my girl."

I agree that Han was probably filled in about Lando, just that we do not see it in the movie. But that is still a good question.
