And this alone shows what a fantastic job he did overall. He was stuck on the set with a puppet for weeks yet I never doubted a moment. I still don't. Mark Hamill rocked Luke Skywalker.

Yep. Yoda wouldn't have worked if Mark hadn't been able to interact with the puppet as though he was a living castmate.

I thought Hamill carried Ford & Fisher in ROTJ...although in fairness to the latter couple, Hamill did have a character arc to complete, whereas Harrison & Carrie were completely neutered.

Agreed.

I think Hamill has been criminially underrated for his acting in the OT. More than anyone else, he had to act opposite blue screens, creatures and droids, and he made them look absolutely real. And, more than anyone else, his character grows and changes over the course of the trilogy. Maybe he didn't have as many ACTING moments, but he did a fine job.

Actually, one of my favorite moments is the way he delivers the Tosche Station line. At that point, even with the different terminology, he sounds just like any other 18 to 20-year-old would. He sounded genuine, which really helped the story for me.

Mark's a very underrated actor. He was great in the OT. I think he did his best in ESB.

Perfectly said. It is criminal. I always laugh when people complain about Mark/Luke being whiny in ANH.....he's supposed to be a kid! He comes off not as someone acting but as if he WAS Luke. Perfect.

It was heartbreaking. Everything he ever knew/thought about himself was shattered, and he knew it in the force. His full legacy, right there.

It's funny, Anakin is a guy always struggling to be good and keeps losing to his real nature. Luke is always good and never has any moral dilemmas. I think Mark is great and really understood that character and potrayed him so well. He really is underestimated as an actor. Mainly, he's not George Clooney (who's not half as good, I mean, WHY is he even famous?), so he never got the leading man parts. Poor Mark, though he's too classy to complain.

I'd call wondering if you'll have to kill your father a "moral dilemna" tongue

LOL.. ..

It wasn't to him. He never intended to kill him. And Vader never really intended to kill Luke.

Firstly, Mark Hamill's greatness is not personified in Star Wars. His career has thrived and flourished as a voice-actor, and in many ways has had more influence over my life as the Joker than as Luke Skywalker. That being said, The Empire Strikes back is the best movie ever made. He plays a key role in the film, as his character is the nexus point for the entier Star Wars Saga. ESB just brings that out. It truly is amazing how great ESB is and how great the character Luke is.

I don't think Luke intended/wanted to kill Vader, but I do think that he at least recognized that it wasn't a total impossibility that he may have had to.

Tell me the PT wasn't great casting! Mark looks like a cross between Natalie and Hayden.

Agreed, that and also the bit where he was getting zonked by lightning and begging his father for help.
