What exactly was the plan Leia and company had as they fired on Slave I as it was flying away from Cloud City? Han is on that ship. If you hit a vital part of the engines that causes an explosion or if you knock out the ship's drive and make it crash into Cloud City or fall tens of thousands of kilometers down into Bespin, well, Han will be dead.

The blasters they were firing aren't strong enough to cause any real damage to Fett's ship. They were shooting out of anger and frustration.

I agree. Also, it looks like they're trying to give an effort (it's a movie). Makes it more believeable.

It's funny cause everytime I watched that scene I always got so angry at that. But I agree, the blasters wouldn't do any damage on any ship, especially Fett's, they were just angry and needed to do something destructive.

But what if it did? Slave I is roaring away from the east platform while Leia and Chewie fire away. Suddenly, one of their blaster bolts strikes a delicate piece of apparatus and smoke begins billowing from the blast site. As Slave I drops like a rock into the orange clouds of Bespin, the roar of its engines becoming inaudbile, Leia and Chewie stare off in stunned silence. Idiots.

LOL! I know what you mean, if they really intended to do damage then Han would have plummetted to his death with Boba. My feeling is that if Fett gets away then Han's dead anyway so better to take them both down, and if they can bring the ship down before it gets away then they can maybe save him, so might as well just shoot.

Given the size of the city, if a blaster bolt had hit Slave 1 and sent it out-of-control, it probably would've crashed into one of the buildings in the plaza concourse below, and Han could've had a better chance of surviving it than Fett, as he was encased in solid carbonite.

Fett was more or less clear of the city(since they were on the east platform), so I doubt he'd crash into it if they managed to land a freakishly lucky shot that would cause damage to Slave I.

There were still buildings to be passed before Slave 1 could make it fully clear. Depends on which shot hit the engine at what time, I suppose.

It could be a number of things, but I really doubt that standard blaster rifle bolts like that could damge an established bounty hunters' ship. The engine would be well protected in a sealed compartment or behind a lot of hull plating.

Even if the blasters DID cause Slave 1 to crash would would the carbonite block be easily destroyed in a crash? Maybe carbon freezing is used as a method of protecting cargo in transport.

C3PO: "Oh they've encased him in carbonite. He should be quite well protected, if he survived the freezing process that is..."

It appears, based upon the radio dramatization, that Leia and Chewie initially believed that they could damage it enough to force Slave I to land-
LANDO: That's it! That's Boba Fett's ship! Han must be aboard!

LEIA: We can't let it blast off! Chewie, open fire on it!

LANDO: It's useless, Leia...

LEIA: Chewie! Aim for the lifters!

However, the fact that it had its shields up meant prevented them from doing any damage.
THREEPIO: Your Highness ... the ship has its deflectors up.

CHEWBACCA: HOOTS.

LANDO: Forget it, Leia. But if we move fast, we might be able to catch them. My people repaired the Falcon. Let's go.

The RD also gives the impression that Leia would rather Han be dead than frozen in carbonite for the rest of his existence-
LANDO: He's alive! The sensors indicate that he's in perfect hibernation.

CHEWBACCA: ROARS.

THREEPIO: Thank the Maker! Oh, no, calm down, Chewbacca! Don't forget, if you initiate more violence, you'll involve others as well as yourself!

LEIA: Threepio's right, Chewie. It's too late for that now.

THREEPIO: But, Your Highness, Captain Solo will be all right, won't he?

LEIA: He's trapped inside that thing forever unless someone releases him. I think I would almost prefer that he'd died.

And even if she wasn't, the Ugnaught Surface might've been there to catch Slave I -- provided Fett was capable of handling such an emergency.

Even if it did, a blaster bolt could only do so much damage. If anything, it would be a good thing- Slave I would be forced to land and to stay on Bespin till Fett could make repairs. Keep in mind Han is frozen in carbonite, he'd be protected threw anything really.

Do you think Boba would turn around for them if they kept shooting at him? No I doubt it
They probably would have caught Boba if Chewie didnt choke Lando.
