If you go to the scene where Luke is having dinner with Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen you can see an arrangement of flowers in the background. I believe they are behind Owen.
I was watching ANH last night and it occured to me why do they have this on their farm? Granted they were probably a gift for Beru or some form of decor that Beru insisted on having to make the farm more homely. However if you are on a barren world where you are farming for moisture to sell I don't think you'd want to use that precious moisture on some flowers. Unless these flowers have some medicinal purpose. A thought? A question? Anyone?

Well, it was a movie, and set designers have been known to add small things like that to make a more "homely" appearance for their sets. Flowers are common dcor for homes, so adding it to a movie wouldn't seem out of the ordinary. As for an in-universe explanation, there probably isn't one.

Figured as much. However it is an interesting question I think, a trivial one at that. However if someone can pull out an official answer this will just add to my dorkiness.

The Lars' had an underground hydroponic garden. I guess they grew some flowers there too, as well as food.

The Lars were a progressive family. I wonder what they grew in their underground gardens.

Like a vika tree. Okay.
As for underground substances I would say they were harvesting spice and that when the Imperials interrogated them they were just going to let them off with a "Notify us when the boy returns" and then another sandtrooper was like "Well what have we here?" and then all hell broke loose.

This was my first thought - artificial flowers.
There are plenty of other GFFA explanations for real flowers, if you put our mind to it.

Like I said, flowers are common in homes. And, as you have said, they're probably artificial. However, it could be s pecies of plant that can survive on Tatooine.

There are plenty of flowering plants in desert and arid climates in the real world. They just need a little bit of water to spark their growth. The same could be possible on Tatooine.

Pfft, the "hydroponic farm" was actually a meth lab. Hence the explosion.

The could have been cooking spices. *Shrugs* Or maybe even have a medical use, like Aloe Vera, thats a desert plant that grows with little water that is the most amazing balm for sunburn! I think it's quite possible that they could be something akin to that.
