Came across an interesting bit on the site of legendary comic artist John Byrne.

Neat stuff.

It's revealed. John Byrne is SuperShadow.

Is there a drawing of the fused Vader and Luke?

That's strange.

Strangest of all I can't understand someone being unimpressed with Empire Strikes Back.

There's a thread around here chock-full of bad reviews for TESB, so he's hardly alone in that regard.

SW movies eventually end up earning a sort of grudging respect over a period of a couple decades or so when critics eventually realize they're wrong...about everything. Sortof like Luke discovering that Vader is actually his father, except less dramatic and (presumably) doesn't involve loss of any limbs. tongue

From what I've read in his SW forum, Byrne's disappointment was not chalked to quality, but on the number of thematic/stylistic deviations from ANH--e.g., the Empire emerges stronger than ever, the Emperor is revealed to dabble in the Dark Arts, Poppa Skywalker and Vader are one and the same, the Force loses its subtlety with the introduction of telekinesis and acrobatics. For him, Lucas's vision was fatally compromised with the very first sequel.

His forum is very interesting, as it hosts the most diverse group of fans I've come across. Some only like the original. Many will only watch ANH and TESB. Others enjoy all six.

Funny. The Star Wars fans I've met universally love ANH/TESB.

The "others" are black ops to me!

To me the Empire Strikes Back was the best in the OT however I think we can all agree ANH has had the biggest impact of all the films and personally I wish I could have been there the first time and not know a thing about special effects as children see so casually these days.

That's a HUGE part of it.

The bar is set so high for effects these days. Suffice it to say that in 1977 ANH was in no way "meh", on technical merit alone.

Wow. Intense.

Imagine if Darth Vader did kill Leia or Han, what the EU would be like. Plus I think if anything seeing Luke turn to the darkside would put a little smile on that mask, except he knows he'd be pwn'd. Darth Vader killing Luke because he does turn, what the hell? I'm so amazingly glad this guy had nothing to do with the overall plot in the end. So glad.

I'd say Han would be the likely canidate to die because it was up in the air at the time of TESB and Harrison even said he felt it would have better suited the film if Han died.

I remember that. Harisson was saying something about how he felt SOMEONE just had to die, and he felt it would make Han more tragic and he had served his purpose.

Imagine a world where Han dies, Leia was no longer Luke's sister and they got together... *shudders*

John Byrne's FAQ posted:
• Is the cover of Joe Satriani's "Surfing With The Alien" album drawn by JB?
• Did JB coin the phrase "fanboy"?
• How is it that JB "created" Venom?
• What was JB's fan-fiction plot for the third STAR WARS movie?

John Byrne posted:

The Moment comes. Vader has killed Someone Important. Leia. Han. Doesn't really matter. But Luke is pushed over. He's going to fight fire with fire. He opens himself to the Dark Side.

I'm getting the impression that John's treatment would have been rendered in crayon...

John Byrne posted:
BAAAAAD Nastiness! A cosmic battle like we have not seen. Whole systems are destroyed.

And Byrne would have been able to make this movie in 1982? Doubtless, Byrne would have invented the tools and technology required, like a Chuck-Norris version of ILM...
In fact, I truly believe John Byrne is the new Chuck Norris. plain

"John, you now claim to have created Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four; all of which have been thus far attributed to Stan Lee. What are your comments on this?"
"Well, I created Stan Lee, so...

Only problem with Han dying is you have so many others dying in ROTJ. Yoda, Palpatine, Vader, Fett, Jabba. Having Han die would either be too much, or would've just been over looked.

Han's death probably wouldn't have went under the radar with the fanbase. I imagine there instead being a big uproar.

Yeah I agree with that. Just like now, they always had some type of insider on the Lucas projects ever since ANH. Someone would find out, worth of mouth would travel and fans would boycott the movie if Han was going to die. If Lucas knew what was good for profits, he'd alter the script like he does already.

Plus, what kinda image would that give off? Hans the slick rebel who all women want and all men want to be. Han can't die, he's just too bad***!
