In Lando's words: "They arrived just before you did". How is that possible? The Falcon clearly got there first, you would think they would've shown us some sort of evidence instead of a bunch of troops appearing around the corner and Vader just sitting in the room...

I always thought Boba Fett figured out where they were headed and alerted the Empire. The Empire had hyperdrives, the Falcon's wasn't working.

I imagine since Boba Fett was essentially considered one of Vader's go-to-guys he probably let the Dark Lord in on the scoop. It's cool if you read the books, I forget which one, but Fett knows that Han parked on the Star Destroyer to go through the trash and called it an old trick in the book.

Boba probably knew, like others mentioned. They probably got their first because they could have some secret hyperspace routes that no ones knows about to shave a few parsecs off here and there. They are, the Empire afterall.

This. Boba knew where the Falcon was; the Empire didn't. It wasn't too hard to plot their course after following them for a bit at sub-light speed and determine their likely destination. They didn't have too many options.

According to John Knoll on the AOTC DVD commentaty, Fett knows about the attaching-to-the-ship part of the maneuver because he's "seen it before", i.e. he deduced what Obi-Wan must have done in the approach to Geonosis.

And I think that Han was too dumb to realize that he was being followed during the three-month period it took the Falcon to reach Bespin.

Basically the Falcon's hyperdrive-less trip to Bespin (which was "pretty far" from the outskirts of the asteroid belt where they started) took as long as you, the viewer, need for it to have taken in order to account for:
1) Luke's training on Bespin (and to justify Luke's statement to Yoda: "But I've learned so much since then [since his failure at the cave]!"); and
2) Fett notifying Vader and Vader taking a garrison to Bespin.
Whether this timespan is three days or three months is up to each viewer. Personally, I like to imagine three months, since it allows plenty of breathing room on Dagobah for Luke to acquire his skills and to have learned "so much since then". It also allows for Leia and Han's relationship to flower off-screen, providing context for their moments together on Bespin, in which they talk like a couple, and for Leia's admission that she loves him.

Well, Luke is the son of the chosen one, he is trained by a master, it was 3 months for him to get his ass ahnded to him by Vader. Almost another year goes by for ROTJ for Luke to become better.
Yoda training Luke is like Mr Myagi training Daniel, getting quality enough to last in a short time. This master though was training Jedi for 800 years.

First, what others said about hyperdrives.
Second, in response to this: you would think they would've shown us some sort of evidence instead of a bunch of troops appearing around the corner and Vader just sitting in the room...
Remember 3P0 getting distracted as they enter Bespin? He's shot and busted into pieces, but when Chewie starts putting him back together he has his line about Stormtroopers. Clearly, the Empire was already there.

Thank you for that. I totally have to tell my buddy now because he loves TESB and he probably doesn't know this. I agree with three months myself now that you've said that.

Perhaps there is a hint in the fact that Lando and co. took so long to get to the landing platform.
Lando was just finishing up a meeting with Fett and Vader and then recived word that Han was there and rushed down to the landing platform.
I'm half-way serious.

I always thought the Empire had beaten the MF by like a matter of an hour or so. When Lando says that they got there first, it just sounds like the Empire touches down, tells Lando the force arragement, and then he gets word that Han's there.
But I guess I was wrong
