What was Leia doing on Hoth, before the Empire's arrival?

At the time of ESB, Leia had become one of the Rebel Alliance's senior leaders. After all, she had literally taken Bail Organa's place, following his death during Alderaan's destruction. And as one of the Alliance's major leaders, she should have been no where near one of the lesser miliary bases. What was she doing there in the first place?

It was not a lesser base; after the Battle of Hoth, the Rebel forces were severely diminished for the remainder of the war. Since that's true, it was not a lesser base. It made a good stroy, and it got all of the caracter sin the same place at the same time.

The seclusion and harsh climate of Hoth made it one of the safest places for the rebels to be.

You answered your own question by stating Leia was one of the most important Rebel leader. Hoth is far off and secluded, it's also hard to get a life form read because of the terrain and the weather. The Empire obviously wanted her, and her being on Hoth was the best possible place to be.

Also, Leia doesn't see it as a "lesser" base. She's a true leader, and therefore does not need a fancy high tech comfortable base. She was willing to stick it out with her followers and her people. To put herself above others would just be like the Empire.

Princess Leia, in the films, never seemed to be that important to the Rebellion. She may be Bail Organa's daughter, but it doesn't look like she took his place. She's not with Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma during the breifing before the Battle of Endor, she's with the soldiers, clueless as to Han's mission. She wasn't part of the Alliance High Command as of the Battle of Hoth, IIRC. I would say that, yes, she was important to the Alliance however, she wasn't about placing her own saftey above the chance to free the galaxy for the Emperor's tyranny. It's only within the Expanded Universe that the authors really give her that political step-up and make her friends with Ackbar, Mothma, Reikan, and any others...

Mon Mothma was out doing more recruiting for the Rebellion. Admiral Ackbar was leading the majority of the Rebellion's fleet.

You know what? I think that in the end, she had no business being there, unless she was part of the military personnel of the Alliance. And I don't think she was.

She took on a lot of missions for the Rebellion so I would say she fit in. If anyone is questioning why Leia was on Hoth then what about Luke? Luke showed he had skill at the battle of Yavin and he destroyed the Death Star, shouldn't he have not been on a chunk of ice and instead in a fighter cockpit helping Ackbar score some points?

Mon Mothma was the more political figure of the Rebellion, Leia was a figure but as a leader. The Empire knew she played a major role in blowing up the DS so I'm sure she was a little higher on the wanted list.

Leia may not have been a military personnel, but she was their leader. A good leader doesn't leave their men in a harsh enviroment unless they're there beside them.

True, look at Vader. He stormed right into Echo Base with the snowtroopers.

I always thought that if Darth Vader went into the cold his suit would get screwed up. But Hoth showed me I was wrong.

Her level of involvement with the rebellion may have not been as well known to the empire. Even with the Imperial Senate being disbanded, she could still have reason to be working things from a political standpoint on Coruscant or her homeworld (Chandrilla if I recall the EU info correctly. Leia, on the other hand was already a fugitive at that point and couldn't exactly be working from that angle. Technically, Leia skipped out on an imperial death sentence. wink

Actually in the EU [Jedi Knight, too.] He had a castle on Vjun called Bast Castle. The planet always rained acid rain. I wonder how he got from place to place on it.
