In ROTJ Luke Skywalker was on the edge of destroying Vader with the dark side of the force "Take your father's place at my side"
In my opinion, Luke was thisclose on becoming a Sith Lord and Darth Sidious' new apprentice.
I always wondered what his Sith name would have been? Each name has a certain relevance to their character.
Darth Plagueis: Life giver/taker
Darth [in]Sidious: Sinister phantom manipulator
Darth Maul: Attacker
Darth Tyranus: Tyranny
Darth [in]Vader: Wasn't his first assignment to invade and purge the Jedi Temple?
Darth ?

Come on, I'm sure you guys could make a Sith name work for boys that kiss their sisters on the lips too.

Darth Prognatus, Darth Progna or some other variation would have been a possibility. "Prognatus" means "born, sprung from" in Latin and can also be used as a substitute when referring to a "son".

^ ^ ^ Darth Scion means the same thing: "Son" or "Offspring" but also carries the connotation "favored son". Plus it just sounds cooler than "Darth Prognatus".

It's also taken, what with Darth Sion and all. Granted, it wouldn't have been taken had it happened back when the trilogy first came out, but it would have been unoriginal chronologically speaking.

Wasn't Darth Vader originally named that because it's like German for father or something?

The Dutch for Father is Vater. The invented word "Vader" certainly evokes a sense of paternity, even if the match isn't precise. It also carries the sense of "invader" the way Darth Sidious carries the sense of "insidious".
Some other fun "Sith Luke" names:
Darth Reiver
Darth Inimicus
Darth Oscuro
Darth Vilus
Darth Apocalypse
Darth Eschatus
Darth Ex
Darth Lucas

wrong way around. Vader is Dutch, Vater is German. Father is English, just in case And words with such striking similarity are called cognates .

I thought Vader was dutch, but I didn't want to say anything in case I was wrong and looked silly
So if Vader loses the "in" from "invader" and Sidious loses the "in" from "insidious", Luke should probably be Darth Cestious
