The Luke-Vader-Emperor fight is bri-li-ant.
It's my favorite film throughout the saga, but the weakest in the OT definitely.

I'm not sure whether Blade Runner has better effects than the prequels or whether it's just done more artistically and therefore more convincingly, but point taken.

See, I really don't buy this "technology wall" thing--Lucas just didn't want to spend the money to accomplish them. ROTJ's script was specifically written to be made for 25-30 million dollars (actually pretty affordable for its time as far as FX blockbusters go). If he made 20 Ewok costumes, and was capable of making Chewbacca, theres no reason he couldn't have made 20 Wookie costumes. As for Corsucant--Blade Runner came out BEFORE Return of the Jedi and for the most part has way better special effects than the prequels anyway. Technologically speaking, he could have done the film exactly as he wanted. The problem is that if he included these elements, the budget would have probably gone up by another six million dollars.

Well, I agree that money counts, but these are several different issues tied together. For example, if we believe Lucas the decision to drop Wookies for Ewoks came about, at least partially, because they were supposed to be a primitive species. Chewie had been flying a spaceship for 2 films, so that didn't quite add up. I've never heard or seen anything about Wookie costumes being too expensive.

I for one understand Lucas being concerned about budget when financing his movies by himself. Empire had a ballooning budget that Lucas had to repeatedly visit banks for. It was his ass on the line, and only his. Of course I think Empire is a better film, but I understand the tension here. The world of art doesn't always work the way the common paycheck does: You don't necessary see ANY money for a long time, even if your movie is the biggest hit in history.

I think it's pretty well established that GL got away from using Wookiees in ROTJ because, as Adali-Kiri said, GL had envisioned the empire being defeated by a rce of primitives, and Chewies presence in the first two movies established that Wookiees were anything but primitive. GL even mentioned this in the commentary in the ROTJ DVD.

I may be wrong, but I think there were also budgetary constraints. They were able to afford Ewok costumes since they were small, but not Wookiee costumes considering how absolutely massive they would be.

ROTJ is my favorite of the OT, and second favorite of the saga. Part of this might be due to nostalgia, as it was the first star wars movie I both saw and owned (thanks to my mom taping it off tv), and it would be several years of watching it over and over before I would own copies of all 3 films.

As others have said, the luke/vader dynamic along with the awesome space battle are two of the main reasons I like this film so much. I prefer the gungans over the ewoks myself, as they are more believable warriors and actually use some modern technology to do so. I also find the new dance scene in the SE to be worse than anything jar jar does in the PT, and by far my least favorite SE change. But the positive definetly outweigh the negatives in my mind.

It's a trap!

What I love about "Jedi" is it becomes the most important film in the saga. I mean it's a story about redeeming and in the film it is very powerful how Lucas showed that. No matter what you've done in your life. Be it bad choices, self caused pain (ect...ect...ect) you can always turn back to making good choice's and people will forgive you.

Why did Vader finally decide to get the monkey off his back? He was already on record telling Luke, "It is too late for me, my son. The Emperor will show you the true nature of the Force." But things changed for him when he himself became the recipient of the full power of the Dark Side, namely the standing expectation, by Palpatine, that their arrangement would return to normal status quo ("You, like your father, are now Mine"), even After Vader had heard Palpatine tempt Luke into killing Vader to become the right-hand man, even After Vader would witness Palpatine execute his son.

Vader tossed Palpatine not out of self-preservation, nor exclusively just to save his son's skin, nor to exact his offer to Luke to "rule the galaxy as father and son," but because he could perceive Luke/himself/apprentice du jour receiving the same back-stabbing treatment from the Emperor at some future date, in a cycle that would not stop if he did not act. (ROTS backfills this with Anakin killing Duku.)

This emotional terrain is traversed nowhere else in the series, except perhaps in the scene where Jake Lloyd asks Natalie Portman if she's an angel, or possibly in the scene where Ric Olie deduces that the hyperdrive is leaking.

This sounds really childish and has no real proper arguement,

but the reason I love the RotJ, is because Anikin Skywalker is redeemed.

Thats about it.
(although ESB is still my favourite)

Don't even get me started on the Ewoks.

I think they could've come up with idea other than to have another Death Star, but the whole point of the movie was to defeat the Empire and there had to be something to represent the Empire and its desire to control the galaxy, and for the Rebels to have something to do, so I guess it was necessary to have some kind of objective or target.

Wasn't there anything else for the Rebels to destroy or conquer? I don't know. I'm no screenwriter, and Uncle George didn't ask for my opinion, so.........

I did like the sequence when Luke deflected the lasers from the speeder bike and then chopped off the front end of that scout's bike as he rode past Luke.

That was WAAAAAY COOL. cool

I love everything about it. I love that fact that in ESB, Luke is still a little emo and doesn't fully understand the force, and then when he goes into jabbas palace in ROTJ, he is super calm and has found his center in the force. He doesn't just complain all the time, and he ends up being a total badass.

I love the fact that Vader redeemed himself, although I wish they could have chosen someone less disgusting to play him, beause I am in love with Vader, and just have to imagine a handsome, un-charred face.

I love Lando and Admiral Ackbar. It's all suspensful and you kind of worry that Han will never get to see the Falcon again, but then he does and it's a happy ending for everybody.

I love the pit of karkoon. Although I hate the new movies, like the digitally remastered movies because they made the sarlaac pit look like that weird plant that eats people from Little SHop of Horrors. It's lame. They added a bunch of extra stuff that is actually just lame when they remastered it. But the original is awesome. My favourite of the trilogy.

I also love the gold bikini. Who doesn't though.

It's my humble opinion that both ROTJ & TPM are the best stories in the whole Trilogy. I also like how "Jedi" is darker in tone. People make the mistake that ESB is dark. Check again.

The overlying redeemption film that is "Jedi" is a much darker film.
