I like the original better, but I don't mind the SE scene. The song in the new one is a tad cheesy and just doesn't fit in with the rest of the movie that well. Generally I like the SE editions, it's just that and Greedo shooting first that I have any problem with (well, and the fact that it sounds like Jar Jar can be heard in ROTJ now... doh! )

As usual with questions like this the answer is,Orignal. Both are terrible like someone else said, but the SE is on a whole new level of bad.

I hate that scene. The close up of the mouth and the cheesy graphics. The song is horrible too.

It raises me to ask, just what the hell Lucas was smoking when he thought that changing it was actually a good idea.

He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could, he never stopped to think if he should.

I always thought the original was awful, putting a rock band in the Star Wars galaxy never worked (the cantina band was an alien version of an old fashioned jazz combo & worked because it was kind of old-fashioned), but the SE version proved that you can always make something even worse.
Greedo firing first aside, it probably reprsented the whole SE trilogy's low point. It was like watching a Japanese variety show with a teenybopper band doing a cover of a hard rock anthem in Japanese. The music was dreadful, the performers were just lame, & the bit where Sy does that 'uh-oh' when Oola falls into the pit was just pathetic. Belonged in a bad sitcom where everyone's trying to be 'sassy' & just come across as idiots.

No, that's much worse. I'm going to have to drink a lot of beer to wipe that from my memory.

Personally, I find Jedi Rocks much less dated than the alternative.

I prefer the original for several reasons.

First of all, the voice of the CG Sy Snootles is very grating and annoying.

Secondly, the instrumentation of the new version sounds too earth-familiar, if you will. The original song sounded much stranger, more fitting with the environment.

Thirdly, the CG animation is terrible, like most of the CG characters in the SW movies. They just don't have a three dimensional quality to them and they move too fluidly. CG works best for non-living things, in my opinion. But that's another topic.

The new song is just a cheesy addition that brings down the seriousness of the whole Jabba Palace setting. The scene was corny enough as it originally was, now it's completely over the top.

That's what I always thought as well. The cantina music and the original Jabba music sounded much more "other-worldly." Jedi Rocks just sounds like trumpets and saxophones.

Yup. I watched ROTJ on DVD a few weeks ago, and when this scene (Jedi Rocks) came on all I could do was laugh and think about this thread. It is just so cheesy... as someone else said, it's embarrassing to watch even if you're alone.
