The new song is just a cheesy addition that brings down the seriousness of the whole Jabba Palace setting. The scene was corny enough as it originally was, now it's completely over the top.

One of the amazing things about Star Wars is its variety. There's something impressive about a movie that can go from Jedi Rocks to the Victory Celebration scene. The old song is not very impressive. I think it's boring, it drones, and it looks fake.

And Sy Snootles has a very different voice. It's nice to get that out-of-universe flavor.

That Celine Dion thing is evidence that there is pure evil in the universe.

I always thought the original was awful, putting a rock band in the Star Wars galaxy never worked (the cantina band was an alien version of an old fashioned jazz combo & worked because it was kind of old-fashioned), but the SE version proved that you can always make something even worse.
Greedo firing first aside, it probably reprsented the whole SE trilogy's low point. It was like watching a Japanese variety show with a teenybopper band doing a cover of a hard rock anthem in Japanese. The music was dreadful, the performers were just lame, & the bit where Sy does that 'uh-oh' when Oola falls into the pit was just pathetic. Belonged in a bad sitcom where everyone's trying to be 'sassy' & just come across as idiots.

I feel like you are speaking words out of my own head right now. So dead-on. I could not agree more. I actually laughed aloud when I read the second part.

Just to clarify, I love the cantina band.

That point had already been made before Jedi Rocks. George beat it into the ground with the change. It wasn't necessary.

So true. The originals not the best either but at least it felt like a scene in the movie,we are watching a seethy crime lords underworld lair, the funky music matched the images we are watching.

Now the whole movie stops for a awful song and dance number in a SW movie. The visuals, goofiness etc etc;how it's done sticks out.

It's one of the worst scenes in a main stream movie I've ever seen.

I can't watch it, I have to fast forward.

EDIT: I do like the floating microphone, though.

The classic version was the best. Where they replaced Anakin at the end just really bothered me. Original <3

The only part that didn't bother me was that they replaced Anakin. The original Anakin is the grossest person ever. The main reason is just because I love Darth Vader and would rather remember him as a handsome person than a gross, charred, pale-skinned, old man. But I understand why it bothers people. All of the other changes bother me.

Original.

Even though that in itself is painful to watch...it's just not as painful as watching the SE version.

Because I have been blessed to see all 6 Star Wars films on their first run I have to say original.

Easy one for me, the original. I’ve always felt that the addition of Jabba to ANH, though interesting because I never saw it before, significantly cheapened Jabba. I really liked how we heard about him in both ANH and ESB, but never saw him. All we knew was Han was starting to really feel the heat and wanted to get that debt cleared. Which eventually, because he didn’t get that debt paid off, we got to see the harsh hand of Jabba. Then we finally get to see him. We get to see his place. We get to see his crew. In the original cut, things were dark, quiet, mysterious, and a bit spooky. I'll admit I didn't expect to see a really big worm, err slug, but it sold, I bought it. To me, both dance parties shouldn’t be there. But the SE party? I feel that goes on to further cheapen Jabba and the nastiness of the whole scene. I mean come on; he's the Star Wars OG. There's no place for Elmo's Dance Party in the Hood.

You're telling me he's charred and pale-skinned in this photo? raised_brow

I've always sort of preferred the original cause that guy with the big tonsils and drooly stuff from the new addition is just creepy.
