If you are paying attention throughout the saga than by the ending of ROTJ you will get a sense that Anakin is happy and complete in the afterlife of the force just like obi-wan and yoda are, the only difference is them you can see. He is reunited with padme in the force because everything is connected by the living force. It is a happy ending.
