In ANH Darth Vader gets into his TIE Advanced x1 Ship, and enters the Battle of Yavin. However, unlike ordinary TIE PIlots who have to wear special flightsuits and carry the lifesupport/air supplies with them, Vader just gets in. Does this mean the Vader's TIE actually does have life support? I know the x1 has Hyperdrive, but I didn'tknow wether or not he has breatheable air - his mask only breaths for him, as far as I know, it doesn't actually supply fresh oxygen???

I would assume that since it has shields and a hyperdrive, it would also have a life support system.

Either way, I'm sure he had a communications system to quickly contact the nearest Star Destroyer to pop into hyperspace and come pick him up.

I read somewhere that he travelled to a nearby Imperial base soon after the Battle of Yavin, but it probably had a comms system as well..

Yeah, he did.

And of course it has a comms system, otherwise he's talking to himself when he's giving his TIE wingmen orders. tongue

Maybe the flight mask the Imperial pilots wear serves the same purpose as the one that jet pilots wear. I heard it has something to do with combat, but I am not sure what exactly. I think it is possible that if it has something to do with air pressure, the it would make sense that Vader doesn't have to wearone, as he lives basically in an iron lung.

But the real question is, was his onboard sewage holding tank overloaded after Hans Solo shot at him ? laugh

There is no way that TIE fighter had enough fresh air to compensate for that ! laugh

Why would it matter? He just flew to the nearest ship and docked.

Sorry, I think my meaning was a bit obscure. ordinary TIE Fighters have no life support of atmosphere in their cockpits, hence the need fo them to wear special suits and take in life support systems for whilst their in space combat. Darth Vader is clearly seen in the cockpit with his ordinary mask. Does this imply that he does have an atmosphere in his TIE Advanced x1? or does his suit have a device in built for such occasions?

I've always just assumed that his regular suit and mask are multi-functional. We know life support's already built into them. And since he's "more man than machine," maybe some extra life-support equipment is built into him and maybe he has more insulation than his thin-seeming suit seems to provide... though, those standard TIE flight-suit are pretty dang thin and still provide enough insulation.

Sorry if I impyed in any way it was a dumb question. It wasn't. I just hadn't thought about it. But, I really don't think it had one for the sheer fact that a Tie Fighter is a short range ship so there would be no real need for it. I could be wrong.

Hmm, I understand what you're saying, but I think Vader's ship can't be counted as a short-range fighter like normal TIE fighters. His actually has a hyperdrive, so he can travel much farther, else he would've been stranded out be Yavin after the Death Star was destroyed. He probably has the same sort of system in his TIE that X-wings and other small, hyperdrive-equipped fighters have for sewage. Unless he's way more machine than human....

Couldn't he have just landed on one of the moons and called for help?

Well, I suppose he could, but why would he when he already has a hyperdrive?
