But if you've been following this discussion, you'll know that the above isn't true. Lucas envisioned Boba Fett as the original stormtrooper, who contributed his DNA to the clones, as early as 1979. Lucas did not invent a new backstory for Fett in the PT to appease fan love for the bounty hunter; his backstory has been in place since the character was conceived around the time of the Holiday Special.

Not really. As much as I adore Boba Fett, I could've done without seeing him at twelve years old re-enacting the Annie factor from TPM. "You got 'em dad! YIPEEEE!"

It is when you overdramatize a delightfully sadistic boy just because you don't like the entire concept of your favorite zero-personality bounty hunter actually getting a bit of characterization via a glimpse of his childhood.

I'm eagerly awaiting a comparison to Palpatine in diapers or something.

Fett is my favourite character because firstly he looks cool. His armour and more importantly his helmet is a trademark for him. His gun was cool looking.
He didn't talk much cause he didn't need to, it was all in his demeanour.
His ship is unique.

Almost everything about him is a one off.

That is until the prequels where he is far from a one off. He is 1 of 250,000 clones!!!!!!!!!

But anyway......

Although his past has been revealed he is still the coolest character.

Should be a spin off movie for him. STAR WARS - Bounty

Actually, that isn't true. While his armor is based on an early stormtrooper design, he was not originally written as having a backstory that connected to the stormtroopers/clonetroopers. Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie had their own idea for his background, during the development of ESB. While writing ESB, Lucas was still toying around with the history of the Clone Wars, and at that point it certainly didn't involved cloning Boba Fett to make stormtroopers. At one point Lando was a member of a species of clones.

The general rule of thumb is, if any character already had a link to the backstory, we're told about it in the OT.

I have no idea why! He doesn't do anything special in the movies. I think all his hype comes from the EU

He hardly speaks and when he does he's ballsy enough to stand up to Vader. He's the strong, silent type! Like so many other elements, he ultimately ceases to be mysterious and consequently loses much of his appeal.

I still remember one of my first good looks at Fett (after the SWHS cartoon) was in an old issue of Bantha Tracks which I still have, where they showed his armour and described him as:

"Not much is known about Boba Fett. He wears part of the uniform of the Imperial Shocktroopers, warriors from the olden time. Shocktroopers came from the far side of the galaxy and there aren't many of them left. They were wiped out by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars. Whether he was a shocktrooper or not is unknown. He is the best bounty hunter in the galaxy, and cares little for whom he works- as long as they pay."

Obviously his origin has changed somewhat over the years, but as a kid reading those words and seeing that armour I knew that this was one damn cool character that I immediately loved.

Boba Fett has always been a cool character but his role was by inlarge a bit part. It's not the lack of lines he has but the lack of action, but I guess some would argue that adds to the mystique of the character and he is one of those people that, less may be more and it is what you make of them so to speak.

There is no doubt the look, mystique (before the PT) and presence he had was great, ok they killed him in a lame way which was a shame.

Why they had to friggin try to ruin the character by showing him as a clone boy and then altering his accent is beyond me, it is unnecessary. I know very few people in their 30's, 40's etc that think that decision benefitted the character. shame_on_you

Stage 1-He's popular because he was like a Western Gunfighter who had a cool look, tough guy voice and acted tough. He even was struting around like a peacock around Vader.

Stage 2-Seeing how popular he was the EU ran with it and people got to see Fett do badass things.

The PT origin took some of the mystery away but the origin itself was just to over the top and out there.GL should have just made the bounty hunter part in AOTC Boba. That would have fit so perfect.

I never understood why Boba Fett is a popular character. I mean, he gets eaten by the sarlacc and almost every star wars fan I hear (no offense to any Boba Fett fans) likes him. Here's what I've noticed about Boba Fett:

1.He has a jetpack
2.He carries a blaster
3.Gets eaten by the sarlac
4.Appeared in the Droids episode "Race to Finish"
5.I've seen men and boys dressed up like him for comventions and Halloween
6.On Family Guy, there's references of him ("No way I bid you on all of my Star Wars action figures. Except for Boba Fett! No matter what, I never go against the Fett man.")

Please help me Star Wars fans.

About #3. You wouldn't know this just from watching the movies, but in the extended universe, he does not die in the pit of karkoon. He actually crawls out, and continues being the most badass bounty hunter alive. He had a whole series written after him, THe Bounty Hunter Series, made post-rotj.

Personally, I like him a lot because I really like Mandalorians. I have read some series involving them, and they are a super intense race and they are genetically built to be badass fighting/killing/totally awesome machines. He is not my favourite character, but I definately really like him. He was one of the most skilled bounty hunters of his time, which is another reason I think people like him so much. Jango Fett was the most skilled bounty hunter of his time, and one of the most prime Mandalorians, which is why the Kamonians asked him to be their candidate for the republic army, and why he got to train some of the troopers. He taught himself to be a great bounty hunter, but he taught Boba from the time he was a small child. Even Jango admitted that Boba was much farther along as a young boy then he was at that age. He is an amazing pilot, an expert fighter, he's good at remaining hidden and unseen, and he is very good with weaponry. Who doesn't like bounty hunters?

good song about boba fett: Fett's Vette, by MC Chris.

I also realize that basically none of my answer has points from the original trilogy, and are from the EU and prequel trilogy. Sorry.

I hate Boba - I hate mandos - I would be happy if they were eradicated from SW for once and for all with a Vong like memory of their existence in the form of a memorial in Coruscant. I avoid Travis like the plague, even when mandos aren't involved because I know one will pop up its evil head somewhere. After LOTF I swore off of them altogether. In reality, in the CT/PT I didn't mind Boba, but continuity ruined him completely - together with the entire race. I suppose if I ignore the EU, then Boba's all right, but who can ignore the EU?

Ten years old, at oldest. Remember, Sifo-Dyas started the cloning project ten years before.

But yeah, that was pretty annoying. But at the same time, I consider it normal. Just like how I consider it normal for Ben to say how cool it'd be to be a Mandalorian and be an adult at 13.
