I hate Boba - I hate mandos - I would be happy if they were eradicated from SW for once and for all with a Vong like memory of their existence in the form of a memorial in Coruscant. I avoid Travis like the plague, even when mandos aren't involved because I know one will pop up its evil head somewhere. After LOTF I swore off of them altogether. In reality, in the CT/PT I didn't mind Boba, but continuity ruined him completely - together with the entire race. I suppose if I ignore the EU, then Boba's all right, but who can ignore the EU?

Don't spare us, Anakin. Tell us how you really feel.

That's funny because I like him more because of the EU. I agree though, who can ignore the EU? I love mandos. I just got done reading a Travis trilogy. I also really like the clone troopers, the republic commandos. They are badasses.

I'm very indifferent to Boba Fett. I don't see why so many people love him but I didn't mind the PT origins either. I never read a Karen Traviss book but I heard a lot of complaints about her making the Mandos into Mary Sues in LOTF. However, I loved Fenn Shyssa in Mindor and I'm not even a big Mando fan. Stover made him a capable, badass guy without upstaging the other characters.

I have no idea why! He doesn't do anything special in the movies. I think all his hype comes from the EU

I agree I think maybe if he loves the EU so much maybe he should just do books instead of movies. I know thats a big hush but I think its odd that a movie Director sometimes perfer books over his own movies, judging by how he almosts leaves all the important stuff into the EU.

What? Who, George? He doesn't so much tell EU writers what exactly to tell about characters - with a few exceptions he more often only tells them what they can't do.

I totally agree. Jango was defeated by Mace Windu, the master of lightsaber combet. I would say that that is a pretty honorable death. Boba however, was defeated by BLIND Han Solo!! And then eventually killed by Bossk. I don't think that he quite lives up to his father. That is just my opinion though.

Vader never says: "Luke, I am your father" what he really says is: "No, I am your father

As far as Jango vs. Boba, which incidentally is not the main point of the thread, the main difference is in the way the characters are presented. Keep in mind this does not address young Boba in AOTC.

Jango is shown fighting, he shows his face, he talks fairly freely, and his badassedness is made explicit by the movie. Boba is actually shown doing very little physically (although those shots he takes at Luke are intended to be near misses, I think, because he knows Vader will be really upset if he kills Luke but he still wants to scare him out of following Fett and his prize). He never shows his face, he says only four lines, and his basassedness is made implicit by the movie. That implied badassedness is kind of like a mysterious gunslinger who comes into town in an old Western.

Those differences mostly account for what made Boba cool in the OT too. He is mysterious, his armor and helmet, complete with scratches and dents, looks cool. His four lines are badass, and so was his original voice and delivery. He also got bonus points for the way he "talks back" to Vader.

I liked both Fetts, for their differences as well as their similarities, but I still prefer Boba out of nostalgia for the way I saw him in the OT back when ESB came out. Having said that, though, I can see why many think he is overrated. It all depends on how much you expect a movie to explicitly "prove" a character's worth, as opposed to kind of presenting an implied aura around them.

One thing why I think he was so popular was before The Empire Strikes Back came out in the theaters back in 1980 Kenner released him as the first action figure and you had to send in a ton of collector points from all the action figures to get him. His character was very mysterious and he looked super cool.

It's funny how the holiday special had so many cool things but was still lame. Wookiees were the central plot element, and there was a sketch with Boba Fett.
