Is this thing on?

Good? Okay, great!

Have you ever said to yourself, “hmm, I think this scene in the classic trilogy could be improved” or “I’m a pretty creative person”? If so, then let me say to you....

Welcome to Classic Trilogy Scene Rewrite Contest, Version 2.0!

This game is the place for you! The idea for this game was sparked by several members of the Classic Trilogy board who have had some fun writing new scenes and rewriting old scenes from the Classic Trilogy (IV, V, VI), mainly in the discussion on future changes to the trilogy thread and the first version of this game. Just as a nod to our sister game, the Prequel Trilogy board does have an offshoot version of this game that you may find yourself interested in. Be sure to check it out when you get the opportunity.

Anyway, hello again! I’m Brandon "Jedimasterbac" Rhea, and I’m the host and co-creator of both versions of this Classic Trilogy challenge. So what do I do here? For starters, I don’t participate. That would be a conflict of interest on my part considering I’m the post. What I do is pick a scene from the Classic Trilogy to rewrite or pick a scene to add into the Classic Trilogy. Occasionally, it will also be from the canon Rebellion era (0 BBY - 4 BBY) rather than solely from the films. Once I pick the scene, and you are more than welcome to submit to me ideas for scenes through the private messaging system, you will then write it! Sounds fun, right? Well, it is! Since this is basically the cliff notes version, let’s take a few moments to look over the guidelines for this game, shall we?
1. Possible scenes that I will challenge you with come in a variety of subjects, but they all relate to the Classic Trilogy or the Rebellion era. With that said, one round we might have a serious scene such as Palpatine speaking to Vader about the destruction of the Death Star, and the next round we might have one where Palpatine learns of the destruction of the Death Star while sitting on the toilet. Although we of course want to be taken seriously, scenes will be fun and lighthearted at times rather than purely serious. Sometimes there will also be super-challenges, which are larger sequences rather than individual scenes, and you will be given more time for that.
1.1. Just as a note, it is up to you whether you submit a scene in screenplay form or narrative form. Whatever you are most comfortable with is acceptable. However, there is a one hundred word minimum for all scenes.

2. There is no sign-up process in this game. Entry into a round is determined by your posting of a scene within the allotted timeframe. The winner of a game can participate in the next game unless it gets to be a case where the same person wins each time. If this happens, I will prevent those people from playing one or two games just to make things fair.

3. Contestants will have one week to submit their scenes into the thread where it will be read and discussed by members of the Classic Trilogy board. Once the deadline has passed, no late entries will be accepted and members will vote in a public poll to determine the winner. Readers will have three days to submit this vote. Once the vote is over, the winner will be announced.

4. You may not message members asking them to vote for you. We feel that this takes the fun out of the spirit of friendly competition and we would not want anyone to get into trouble, as mass private messaging is a bannable offense on TheForce.Net.

5. The winner of the round will receive VIP colors for three days. If you do not win, though, have no fear! You will not be banned and you will be able to try again in the next round.

6. If you have questions regarding the scene topic, please post them in the thread rather than sending me a message. This way, those with the same or similar problems will have an answer as well.

7. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The First Challenge: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

You all know the scene: in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Lando Calrissian leads Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca to "refreshments" on Cloud City. However, once they get to where the refreshments should be, what do they find waiting for them? Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Just as things are getting interesting....the door slides shut and the scene ends? Noooooooooo! I wanted to know what happened after the door shut!!!

But wait! There is hope!

This game is our last hope....

And I mean it that time. There is not "another". I need YOU to make this never-before-scene come alive. Therefore, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write a scene depicting this very "dinner on Cloud City" scene that we have never been able to see before. You can write it however you want (script, narrative, haiku, whatever), so long as it meets the 100 word minimum, and you can write whatever you want. There are no restrictions other than what I've already told you.

Scenes are due in on Monday, December 22nd, at midnight board time, after which point a poll will be started to vote for the winner. If you have any questions, please let me know. Good luck! grin

I should also just note for a moment that Senny (TwiLekJedi) was the one who suggested this scene, so I publicly challenging him to enter this round. tongue

Het 'bac, great kick-off!

Quick question though; is it within this thread we post, or the Fanfic Resource thread?

Right in here. The Fan Fic Resource thread is really just a thread for updates so Fan Fic people can see what's going on.

Good question. happy

I'll see what I can whip up for this. Looks like a challenge, though. Oh, wait, it is... tongue

Here's my entry. grin

Dinner in the Clouds

The door closed behind Han, Leia, Chewie and Lando, stick in the room with Darth Vader and Boba Fett, holding his blaster menacingly. Han shot Lando a rude look, but his "friend" couldn't bear to reply. Chewie let out a low whimper, and Fett started to move his gun into a position to fire at the Wookiee. Vader put an arm up, stopping Fett from completely raising his gun. "There is to be no violence, bounty hunter," the Sith Lord said in his mechanical voice. "They are important parts to the deal."

"Lord Vader, about the deal . . ." Lando started, but Vader gave him a menacing look with his mask. Lando quickly shut his mouth, hoping that he would not step on a soft spot. Vader wa not to be messed with, and they both knew it.

"The deal is of no immediate importance, Calrissian," Vader growled. "You have done your job well."

"All right," Lando said. Vader, looking at the others in the room, beckoned to the chairs surrounding the table. "You will sit down."

Han took a short step forward, and Vader started to hold out his hand. Scared, Han plunked down in the nearest seat, soon followed by Leia and Lando. Chewie continued to stand, and Boba walked over to make sure that the Wookiee would not try to pull something. "Chewie, don't try anything," Han urged. "We don't want any trouble." Chewie stood still, following what his friend had asked of him.

"I see that you have surprising obedience from your friend, Solo," Vader commented. To Fett, he said "Make sure he doesn't do anything sketchy. I cannot have this opportunity blown."

"Don't worry about that," Fett replied, shouldering his rifle in Chewie's direction. "I've got it covered."

"Good. I would hate for our meal to be . . . interrupted," Vader said slyly. "Now, have some ale."

"I don't trust this . . ." Han began, but Vader cut him off.

"Tell him, Calrissian," the Sith said.

"Han, the ale is not spiked," Lando said calmly. You can trust me not to do that to you."

"I can't trust you any more, friend" Han mumbled before pouring a small amount in his glass.

"And make sure you eat," Vader said mischeviously. "I wouldn't want you to starve with all this food on the table."

"I'm not hungry," Han said.

"You Will Be!" Vader shouted. Han recoiled, then slowly grasped the sppon with his hand. As he scooped some of the food onto his plate, some of it fell off. Sweat dripped down his face as he did so, followed by a short second of pain.

"Han!" Leia exclaimed. "What is it?"

"Can't . . . move . . . arm . . ." Han stammered. Vader had his hand out, controlling Han's arm.

"I wouldn't want you to starve," Vader repeated. "You are of much importance to me."

"I bet I am," Han said, trying to fight the grip on his arm. However, the grip tightened, and Han yelped out in pain.

"Your resistance is weak, Solo," Vader remarked cruelly. "I can feel your weakness building in."

"You'll . . . never . . . break . . . me! . . ." Han said, struggling with all his might to regain control of his arm. All of a sudden, Vader's Force Grip disappeared, sending Han's arm into a bowl of food.

"I see there is no prevailing weakness in you, Solo. It is possible that I have underestimated you."

"What can I say?" Han said. "I am a wanted man."

"Enough of your foolish talk, Solo!" Vader roared, quieting Han immediately. "You are not fully aware of your true value to me."

"I can guess. This was not a coincidence," Han said, his breath ragged.

"There is no such thing as luck, Solo," Vader growled. "There is the Force. Nothing else matters."

"There is always luck," Han said.

"Do not underestimate the Force, Solo," Vader said, pointing at Han. "It makes me more powerful, and it makes you weak. Now, EAT."

The three aroudn the table began to eat as Vader stared at them. He could feel their fear rising, especially in Solo. Here was a "notorious" smuggler, known for his stupidity and his penchance for failure, doing his bidding. Jabba the Hutt must be crazy to want this man alive he thought. His arrogance blinds him to the truth of what is really going on. Snapping out of his thought process, Vader looked at Lando, who had lifted his head. Lando had to swallow a bite of food before saying

"Lord Vader, is my end of the deal complete yet?"

"No, Calrissian," Vader responded. "There is a long way to go."

"But that's more than I agreed to!" Lando said. Boba turned around so that Chewie and Lando were both in his peripheral vision, fidgeting with his blaster as he waited for the order to open fire. Again, Vader motioned for him to keep his weapon down, although the bounty hunter knew that he really wanted to capture Solo and collect his reward from Jabba the Hutt.

"You forget quickly, Calrissian, that I have given you something of great value in return for your services now. It is time for you to complete your end of the bargain."

Lando sighed and looked down at his plate again. Vader, looking around, opened the door with the Force. Several stormtroopers entered the room, their armor and helmets sparkling in the artificial light. "I want the Wookiee and the Princess to be taken to the detention level," he started. "Captain Solo is to accompany me." Two troopers roughly grabbed Chewie, who let out a loud howl of rage. Standing up, Vader said "Now, Solo, it is time for you to come with me. Calrissian, you will follow me as well." Han stood up shakily, but a trooper roughly shoved him behind Vader, who strided out fo the room and down the hallway. Lando followed along behind with Fett, who had his weapon in a sideways position. As he rounded the corner, Han looked back at Chewie with a straight face. His friend let out a low rumble before Han walked out of sight with Lando, Fett and a couple of stormtroopers bringing up the rear.

My submission.

Using the force, Vader moved a chair away from the table deftly. "Sit down, Captain Solo."
Princess Leia, fearless as always, looked Vader in his masked eyes. She quickly stated matter of factly, "So you have us now Vader, but we are just a small piece of rebellion."
Lord Vader retorted, "You will soon see that your rebellion is at an end."

Han Solo had sat down, crossed his arms, and proceeded to put his feet on the ornate dinner table. His loyal companion Chewbacca move behind him, standing stoically, crossing his arms as well in a gesture of defiance.

"You're a man on a wanted poster, Solo." Boba Fett said calmly, "I hope you enjoy your last night as a cheap rogue pilot." Fett glanced at Vader.

Suddenly the door to the Banquet room opened ....

Hood, the Cloud City ice cream maker, interrupted the proceedings. Unaware of the clientle in the banquet room, Hood was opening his ice cream contraption, fiddling with the containers.

"We got Strawberry, we got Vanilla, ..."

Hood was suddenly aware of an eerie silence. He looked up, saw the group assembled in the room, and swallowed noticeably.

Lando, who was standing right by the door, leaned over and whispered in a terse tone, "Man, you gotta bounce."

Hood realizing the gravity of the situation, quickly backed out of the doorwell and started whistling a tune, attempting to act non-chalant about the whole situation.

Pass Me An Apple

“Why the long face?” Han Solo asked the evil dark lord Vader as they all sat in silence. It had been ten minutes and Han was the only one brave enough to brake the uncomfortable silence.

Vader didn’t answer. Boba Fett looked down at Han, he seemed truly at ease.

“Hey Solo…you up for a game?” Fett flashed a small deck of cards. Oh no, they were Sabacc cards. Han’s only weakness.

Han leaned over in his chair. He was desperate to hold on…

I can't do it, Han thought, I have a problem! I’ll lose my ship, or my arm, or leia! Got…to…fight it!

Boba Fett saw how hard Solo was struggling. He used it to his advantage.

“Come on Solo, can’t be afraid. We’ll keep the stakes low - I promise.”

Must fight it! Han’s head was exploding and tearing itself in half. He looked around the dining room for support. His eyes first met Leia’s. She was so beautiful. She met his gaze at once and shook her head firmly.

Han looked next to Chewbacca, his trusted co-pilot and best friend. Chewie’s expression was easy to read. Han translated it as “Win me a new bow caster buddy!” Chewbacca, such an intellectual.

Han then looked at Vader, his expression was slightly harder to read…

Lastly Han looked into the face of his once friend, Lando Calrissian. Lando understood at once, and feeling horrible about what he had done, pleaded Han to not do it.

“Han old buddy, don’t do it. What if you lose? Then - OUCH!!!” Lando caught an apple right in the head.

“That’s for selling me out to Vader.” Han said. He stuck his tongue out at Lando. Han took one large bite of pepperoni pizza and stared at Boba Fett. “Lets play!”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

“COME ON!” Han yelled throughout the dining room. He woke Darth Vader from his snoozing. “ONE TIME CAN I GET A HAND, ONE TIME?” Han continued his yelling for ten minutes.

“That’s it, this party is over.” Darth Vader spoke menacingly through his mask. “Come on Solo.” Vader stood up.

Han looked first to leia, then to Chewbacca.

“I’m sorry.” He said. For they both sat on top of Boba Fett’s pile of winnings. Along with them sat the keys to the falcon, 1,043 credits, and Han’s favorite vest.

“You cheated.” Han said before being hauled through the door by Darth Vader himself.

“Did not.” Fett said just before Han Solo was dragged, screaming, out of sight.
