	It's 1980. Anakin Skywalker and the Emperor are dead. The second Death Star has been destroyed. The Galactic Civil War is over. In a quaint celebration on the Forest Moon of Endor, Luke Skywalker gazes at the spirits of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. But then, off to the left, Anakin appears. Depending on your preferred version, Luke is finally able to see either the kind old man his father could have been or the Jedi Knight that his father once was. Either way, a question can be asked: what did Anakin do between his death aboard the Death Star and his re-appearance as a spirit on the the moon of Endor? If you have an interest in solving this mystery, then this is the contest for you! The Classic Trilogy Scene Rewrite Contest: Game 4 - The Chosen One's New Clothes! With a title referencing the fact that Anakin has now become a spirit and shed the armor of the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader, this challenge is to write what happened between his death on the Death Star and his re-appearance on Endor. Where was he? What did he do? Who did he see? Was Padme there? Was Shmi there? Was Qui-Gon there? Who knows?! The choice is up to you. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to decide what happened to Anakin in the spirit realm or wherever he went upon his death but before he appeared as a ghost on Endor. You are free to write this scene however you want in any manner you see fit, so long as you follow established guidelines found in the original post of this thread. Whether Anakin's ghost is young or old is up to you. The scene is due in on Saturday, March 21st at 11:59pm BOARD TIME/Pacific Standard Time. A poll to vote on the winner will be posted shortly thereafter. 	Here it is. It is in fact a small part of a long article about Anakin. I just translated this piece and modified it into something more integral. The story happened immediately after Vader closed his eyes on the death star. Hope you like it. ------------------------------- "Come back, son. Come back to the embrace of the force." Whose voice was that? So tender, so familiar. Yet it had not been heard for a long time... Qui-Gon...It was Qui-Gon! Anakin opened his eyes with excitement, only to see pure brilliant white light, to which he had not yet adapted himself. "Where am I? Qui-Gon, where are you?" He looked around this empty space, searching for Qui-Gon desperately. "I am right beside you, although you can not see me. You are now in the netherworld of the force. All the lives will come to this world and merge into the force after they die. Their consciousness will disperse, their spirit will break apart. Only a pure Jedi spirit can keep an intact soul, even an image of the whole body. " Only at that moment did Anakin noticed that he had an transparent shiny body, wrapped in a Jedi robe with all four limbs intact, just like what he was more than two decades ago. He stood up, feeling extremely light, as if there was no gravity. "A pure Jedi spirit..."Anakin pondered on these words. "No, it's impossible...I ceased to be a Jedi a long time ago, let alone PURE. I am a sinner with both hands bathed in blood. I am too evil to be redeemed. How could I be qualified for such an immortality?" He suddenly fell on his knees and cried, "I am so sorry, Qui-Gon. I failed you, I failed you all. I..." "Anakin," Qui-Gon spoke gently as if he was looking at the innocent child on Tatooine with a tender love. "Anakin, all have gone. The only thing that matters is not what you did, but what you are now. The way to become a Jedi spirit is to completely forget about yourself, erasing all your hatred and discontentment, immersing yourself in the love to others, which was just what you did while dying. Anakin, though no one taught you, your love to your son saved you." Anakin looked up, a faint smile carried on his face. The thought of his son always warmed his heart. "And further more," Qui-Gon continued, "You destroyed the Sith and fulfilled the Jedi prophecy in the end." "The prophecy..." Anakin contemplated again. "I am always confused what the prophecy really means. Was all I have done included in the prophecy? Is that the meaning of bringing balance to the force?" "Maybe Jedi should not be the whole story of the force - No one knows. The force is too subtle. However, Anakin, no matter how far away you have gone, I always believed you would come back some day. Now, that day has come." “You always believed in that prophecy? Even when all the people had forgotten it, including myself?" "No, Anakin, I always believe in YOU." Again, Anakin's eyes clouded with tears. So, he was never alone. In the infinite darkness of his life, there was always a pair of eyes gazing at him, with sadness, but also with trust." "Qui-Gon...Thank you." In the distance, two figures appeared, one tall, one short. They moved closer and became brighter and clearer. Obi-Wan, Yoda...Anakin wanted to walk toward them, but his legs seemed not to obey him. So he had to stand there numbly, waiting for them to come in front of him. Yoda was floating in the air. Anakin looked down to him, smiling shyly, like a young padawan facing the masters in the Jedi concil. "Master Yoda." He called quietly. "Hmmm...Such a surprise it is." Yoda replied with his special tone. Anakin then looked up, gazing at the white-haired old man. This was his master who mentored him for ten years. This was the one whom he loved and hated, who hurt him and hurt by him. From closest friends to enemies of life, all that had passed was still vividly living in his mind. He did not know if a forgiveness could be easily given after so many years. He wanted to say sorry, but that word was too weak. How could any words carry the weight of the past between them? For a long time, they just looked at each other. No one spoke, but smiles slowly appeared on their faces. At last, Anakin said, "Master." "Anakin!" Obi-Wan could not hold himself any longer. He grasped Anakin into his arms, "My dear brother, you are back at last!" Anakin was sobbing. He had thought that he would never be forgiven, that he would only be cursed forever. But now, he seemed to have had a long nightmare, and when he waked up, all were as good as the beginning. Obi-Wan held his hands, choked with tears, "Yoda and I had given up the hope in you...Thanks to your son. You have a son who really loves you." "Luke..." Anakin called this name tenderly. "Thank you, Obi-Wan, you helped him so much. I am not a good father." "I was not a good master, either." Obi-Wan replied. "Luke is very like you. He made me think I should have let you take a totally different road. I took many things too absolutely. I only knew to suppress your passion and desire, but not fully understood your heart. It was Luke who let me realized that attachment could also make one become a great Jedi if it was guided properly. I was too conservative. I should say sorry to you..." "No, Master!" Anakin turned around, exhaling a deep breath. "It was all because of my ambition. I thought I could acquire much greater power as a Sith, and with the power, I could rule my fate and do whatever I wish. I didn't see that it was just a trap. You want more, you lose more." "Understood it finally you have." Yoda had somehow drifted in front of Anakin. "Understand the force more than the Jedi the Sith do not. Freer they are not either. Calculate many things Sidious couldn't. Ewok beat the imperial troop he did not expect, Luke refused to turn to the dark side he did not foresee either, and you still had love in your heart he could not have even dreamed of. Too arrogant all Sith are. Override the force no one can. Comprehend the force, follow the force, join the force, true freedom it is." Anakin nodded. Yes, true freedom. He had pursued freedom for his whole life and could not get it until now. "Master Yoda." Anakin asked, "Is there any chance that I can see my son again? And...my daughter too?" "Hmmm...We are about to take you there." Yoda smiled. "Follow me." Anakin and Obi-Wan nodded to each other and walked side by side behind the floating green master. They were walking on an invisible road and the bright light began to shrink into more and more materialized images. The forest of Endor. Not far away, Ewoks were singing and dancing with the members of the Rebel Alliance, Luke among them. "Luke." Anakin called through the force. Excited, Luke turned around and looked at them: Obi-Wan, Yoda and...A handsome young Jedi? Then he understood. A broad smile showed on his face. "Father." He called softly in his heart. "I love you." They just looked at each other, smiling. Then Leia came around and took him back to the crowd, unaware of the loving glance from her father. Looking at their back, Anakin breathed a soft sigh. "You are thinking of Leia." Obi-Wan read his mind. "She may never forgive me. I did too much harm to her." Anakin bowed his head sadly. "She will. Some day, she will..." Yoda murmured. The bonfire bounced cheerfully with Ewoks' songs. Luke was dancing with friends, Leia and Han hugged closely. Padme, have you seen it? How happy our children are. They will create a brand new world. 	Just finished, after just finding out about this 2 days ago. I've always wanted to write something like this. And it's the fastest I've ever written a story. A Time to Remember Anakin awoke once again. The image of his son, the son he never knew he had up until a few years ago, was engraved in his mind’s eye. He looked around at his surroundings, and it reminded him so much of Padme’s vacation retreat on Naboo. Padme. He hadn’t thought of her in days. It was only then that Anakin remembered what had just happened. He killed his master, all to save Luke. Because of his sacrifice, the Emperor’s Force lightning had weakened him, and then… But this cannot be the afterlife, Anakin thought. Anakin sat up from where he was laying. He noticed as soon as he moved, he no longer wore the black suit that had sustained his life for so long. He looked at his right arm, and instead of the mechanical appendage that he had since Count Dooku sliced off his arm, he had his real arm back. There was a slight movement out of the corner of his eye. His hand immediately went for his lightsaber, only to find that it was not at his waist. Defenseless, Anakin turned toward the newcomer. It was Padme. “That was a brave thing that you did for our son, Anakin,” she said. Anakin smiled as he heard her voice. To him, it was always so calming. But suddenly, he realized something. He turned his head away. “Don’t look at me,” he said. He was ashamed of his face. “Why, Ani? You look the same as how I last remember you before you turned to the Dark Side.” Padme had reached him. She was always so beautiful, even in the afterlife. She wore a white dress, and her hair was left down. “Why am I like this? What have I done to redeem myself?” “Perhaps I am not the best one to answer this question, but I know who could.” Then, he saw more movement in the shadows. Stepping into the light, he saw his old padawan, Ahsoka. Anakin felt pain in his heart; Ahsoka’s life had been cut so short because of his carelessness. Behind Ahsoka, came Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ben, as Master Kenobi liked to be called was only a recent discovery by Anakin. It was only then that he felt upset for nearly killing his former master, but had Obi-Wan not vanished when he did, Anakin would have struck him down. Here, Obi-Wan appeared as how he best knew him. Qui-Gon Jinn emerged next. Qui-Gon had first seen what young Anakin was capable of when they first met on Tatooine. It was his doing that Anakin had become Obi-Wan’s padawan. Master Yoda walked in, supported by his walking stick. The short, green Jedi Master was actually smiling, something that Anakin rarely saw. Then Mace Windu appeared. Anakin soon realized that Darth Sidious had killed Master Windu the same way that he had attempted to kill Luke. Then Anakin remembered that it was his fault that Master Windu had died. Lastly, in came his mother, Shmi Skywalker. Besides seeing Padme again, Anakin was most happy to see his mother; the person that he had tried so hard to save, but yet failed. “You were The Chosen One, Anakin,” Qui-Gon said. “I most of all knew this from the instant that I found out how much of the Force that resided within you.” “You have finally brought balance to the Force,” Master Windu said. “But how?” Anakin asked. “I killed so many Jedi when I stormed the Jedi temple with the 501st Legion. How could I bring balance to the Force when I have done something as evil as that?” “Master Yoda had thought after that happened, you just might not actually be The Chosen One. But I told you on Mustafar that I still believed you were.” “Killed Darth Sidious you have, and so returned to the light side were you. Because of this, destroyed the last of the Sith have been,” Master Yoda said. Anakin smiled. Yoda always talked differently, but yet he always made more sense than anyone. “I never thought when the Jedi Council first told me of my fate that it would come to this.” “Discuss matters later, we will. But for now, see us, your son wants,” was Yoda’s reply. Anakin looked at Master Kenobi, and was surprised to see that he had changed to how he appeared when he died. Master Kenobi answered his question for him. “This is how Luke remembers me. Now, it is time for you to choose: How do you want your son to remember you? As you were when you died, or how you were when you were a Jedi Knight?” Anakin looked to Padme, who only gave him a smile. By the time that he looked back to Master Kenobi, he and Yoda had disappeared. “I think you know what to do, Ani.” “I do,” Anakin replied, and smiled back at his wife just before he vanished to join Masters Kenobi and Yoda to show his son how he would like to be remembered —- as a Jedi Knight. -----signature----- TK 3274 • http://www.ohio501st.com/ 501st ~ When you care to send only the very best.
