At a fairly new mall in Duluth, Minnesota when I was nine and a half years old. I was on vacation there and it's been awhile, so I don't recall the name of it. I do recall my Uncle Mike saying "How 'bout I take the kids (my younger brother and I) to see that new movie 'Star Wars'. It's supposed to be really good." THAT was an understatement!

I was born in '88, so my first exposure to Star Wars was the Special Editions.

I had never heard of Star Wars before seeing the ANH: SE ad on television, and I said to myself: "Hm. That looks interesting." so I dragged my mom to the Midway Theater in Forest Hills to see what it was all about.

The rest is history.

It is not known to most people that Star Wars is based on the Akira Kurosawa film The Seven Samurai, a 1954
Japanese masterpiece wherein a team of 19th century Samurai free a princess by attacking a space station.

I first saw Star Wars in 1977 at the Seaview Movie Theater in Canarsie Broolyn, NY. I also saw it at the Kingsway Theater and the Canarsie Triplex.
I saw Empire Strikes Back, the one and only time, at the Jamestown Twin in Upstate New York.
And Return of the Jedi at the Canarsie Triplex and again at the Kingsway Theater.
I saw the Special Editions of each film once at Sheepshead Bay. And saw ANH at Lincoln Square, and ROTJ at the Zeigfeld. It's funny, in a way, but I saw each Special Edition the same number of times I saw the original release.
3 Star Wars:ANH
1 Empire Strikes Back
3 Return of the Jedi

I wish I could have seen one of them when they were released. When SW came out I was -9.5 years old! But it have been a thrill to watch the granddaddy of all summer blockbusters. I did see them in 97' so I will have to live with that I guess.

I first saw the movie STAR WARS in 1977 at LOEWS in Greenwood, Indiana. It had eight screens, at least 4 of them were really big and held a lot of people (I'm thinking possibly six of them).

I saw it with a friend of mine, his two sisters (one older, one youger), his mom, her friend and her friend's son (the youngest of us all). Me, my friend and his two sisters sat very near the screen (but not in the first row) and to the left of the screen when facing the screen (the other boy that went with us sat with us for at least some of the movie).

We saw it on one of the huge screens that held a lot of people and it was packed and I remember a cartoon playing before the movie started.

And, it was amazing. The movie and the experience. happy

That LOEWS has since been torn down. I remember seeing the SPECIAL EDITIONs there muliple times and I remember that STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE was on there, but I don't remember for sure when it was torn down. Possibly before STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES was released.

In Paris, France, early 1978 when it was released over there.

I was 7, with my parents, and I remember a huge crowd queuing in front of the theater. The film had already started when we eventually got in, and I was seperated from my parents, as there were only spare seats left here and there.

Even now, I clearly remember watching the Star Destroyer looming and the first droids scenes on the Blockade Runner.

God, that was so long ago !

I saw it in '77 w/my parents a week after it came out. Grand Rapids Michigan.

I remember thinking the opening shot with the ships was cool. But, then I saw Darth Vader and I was like "This movie is going to rock."

I saw Star Wars in a small (by today's standards) theater in Rochester, NY called StoneRidge. It's no longer in business. I have only the vaguest memory, though, as I was 8 at the time. I'm pretty sure it was 1977, and we went to a drive-in in the summer of 1978 to see it again, but the line to get in was so long, we just went home. :-(

I saw it at Showcase Cinemas, in Erlanger, Kentucky during its initial release. This was an early multiplex movie theater (at least for my part of the country), though like so many others, it has since closed.

I saw all 3 OT films on their first release (countless times!) at Studio 28 Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I had to ask my mother to clarify for me in recent years, because I was just six at the time in 1977, but I saw Star Wars on or after the time it came to the Arrowhead 3 Theatre in Jonesboro, Georgia on June 24, 1977. Sad to say, it closed in 1989 and now it's the Everest Institute. Here's a page on the theater from Cinema Treasures:
