DV was her Father too. I know for story sake and film it was more about Luke and DV, but I've always thought Leia should have been present for DV's funeral service.

I assume she chose not to go given that she had only learned Vader was her father the day before.

I don't think it was a matter of whether she chose to do it. I think Luke took the body and went straight to the forest for the funeral pyre, and didn't see or talk to Leia until he arrived in the Ewok village. I guess it would have made realistic sense for Luke to have at least asked Leia to be there, but in terms of the movie, since the theme was father and son, it would've been out of place.

She wanted nothing to do with Vader even after his death.

Yeah, I don't think he even told her about it.

Yeah, based on the reactions we see when Luke arrives at the Ewok party, this is the first time he's seen Leia, since being back.

And I don't think Leia would need to be there. The story here is the struggle between Luke and Vader, Father and Son. That should be how its ends as well.

What I don't get is why anyone would want to be present. Breathing the fumes from a burning corpse would not exactly be a picnic. tongue

That's just as well, since there was no corpse in the armor. Anakin's body disappeared shortly after death.

Not according to Lucas, but I was also thinking of Qui-Gon's pyre. That could not have been pleasant, unless they had an invisible force field thingy going on.

Yup. A time after this Leia said how whatever good he did could never make up for his actions. Anakin's Force ghost even asked for her forgiveness, she wouldn't give it. Even if she had known it's likely she wanted nothing to do with it.

In the EU she didn't finally accept and forgive Darth Vader as her father until a good like, 3 or 4 years after ROTJ.

Even though she knew Luke was telling the truth, she didn't want to believe it. She was raised for 20 years believing Bail was her father, not Anakin.

Plus I think Luke would've wanted to be alone. Only he felt Anakin in the force, Leia did not establish a connection with him. Besides the anual torturing.

Give to you, a choice. Hmmm?

How do you think Leia felt after learning about her real father and Luke telling her out of the blue that they're sisters and him going off to battle Vader for the last time because she's been told by Luke that there's still a little bit of goodness and Anakin Skywalker inside all that evilness :P. You would be pretty damn upset and angry and whatever else.

Plus if Leia showed up at the pyre with Luke I would have a feeling that Leia would spit on the burning carcass or something

Yeah. I was going to say the same thing. Does anybody remember exactly what book it was that she actually spoke to Anakin's force ghost? It slips my mind.

It is not known to most people that Star Wars is based on the Akira Kurosawa film The Seven Samurai, a 1954
Japanese masterpiece wherein a team of 19th century Samurai free a princess by attacking a space station.

I believe she sees his spirit in Truce at Bakura, but she doesn't forgive him until Tatooine Ghost. I don't think she would have wanted to be at his funeral. Part of the problem is she's just too much like her father, and that's why she can't forgive and accept him as readily as Luke can.
