Yeah! That's right Truce at Bakura. I remember her being really unaccepting of Anakin then.

She couldn't touch the Force yet, and she didn't know the details of Anakin's life, so she couldn't be there.

That's just as well, since there was no corpse in the armor. Anakin's body disappeared shortly after death.

That's probably something that was totally spaced out of the writing.

I think dramatic effect might be one of the main reasons! That scene of Luke's silhouette standing by his father's burning pyre?

If you think about it, even though intellectually she knew Vader was her father, her experiences of being in his presence included witnessing the love of her life being snap frozen, and seeing Vader and Tarkin blow up her beloved home planet. I think those experiences would have somewhat cooled any daughterly warmth towards Vader.

Luke had more of an emotional/spiritual connection to Vader leading up to his death - not least the fact that Vader saved Luke's life.

I also agree she would still have been in shock. I know I would've been!

Not according to Lucas, but I was also thinking of Qui-Gon's pyre. That could not have been pleasant, unless they had an invisible force field thingy going on.

Why would it smell any different from a barbeque?

I wonder what the other members of the Rebellion thought about this? Did they think Luke was victoriously burning the body of their mortal enemy? If not, didn't the Rebels think it was odd that the brutal dictator they'd been fighting was being given an honorable funeral at their own victory celebration?

REBEL PILOT: Uh, Luke, why are you reverently conducting a funeral for a tyrant who is responsible for at least several million deaths?

LUKE: Well, after I'd fought him to the point that his survival was questionable and our fighters were about 5 minutes from destroying the battle station he was aboard, he switched sides and wanted to be dear old dad to me for perhaps 3 minutes.

REBEL PILOT (sarcastically): Oh, well that changes everything! Nothing says sincerity or legitimacy quite like a deathbed conversion. Say, shouldn't we erect a statue -- perhaps carved from the asteroidal remains of Alderaan -- to Palpatine? Maybe he switched sides as he was plummeting to his death?

I don't think she would have gone. Think about it, there was some seriously bad history between them: you know, that Alderaan thing, torturing Han, etc. etc.

So, I don't think she was ready to accept him as her father. I think there's an incident in the novels that reflects this.
