I have always wondered why Mark Hamill never became what Ford did. I'm sure an element of it is that Mark just didn't want it as much, but I'm sure a part of it is that Harrison was able to avoid being type-cast as Han Solo because he played Indy in-between Star Wars and Empire while Mark will be forever identified with Luke Skywalker.

Harrison is dripping in Charisma..he's magnetic, charming, handsome..in other words: he's got star quality. Mark, bless him (and I loved him in the OT) just doesn't possess those qualities. It's got little to do with acting ability..Ford invariably plays himself, whereas Hamill CV is curious & diverse..but as the old saying goes: You've either got it or you ain't.

Funny you should say that. Here in the UK we had a show recently called 'Bring Back Star Wars'. And the presenter quizzed Carrie Fisher on the rumors that both Ford and Hamill had designs on her during 'A New Hope'. Fisher said that if any of them made of a move it would be no contest as Harrisson is all the things you mentioned above, and Hamill, whilst nice enough just simply aint.

It's been uploaded on Youtube. I'd strongly reccomend it, you learn a lot of new things. Many UK fans view of Anthony Daniels has taken a real downturn after this show!

Ha-Ha..yeah I saw that show. That story about Harrison in the wardrobe laugh

I've always sided with Lil' Kenny in the ol' 'Baker Vs Daniels' cold war.

Don't feel sorry for anyone who got to play both Luke Skywalker and the Joker.

Don't forget that role, the name of which will not be mentioned for obvious reasons, in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. tongue

Exactly. Mark's not exactly living in the poor house.

I noticed that in the ever expanding list of Hamill's work on this thread that "The Big Red One" hasn't been mentioned. That's a darn good W.W.II flick. Mark has a prominent role in it, too. It came out around the same time as ESB. It follows a "time line" type plot similar to "Band of Brothers", but it's wider in scope and includes a larger portion of the war, both in time and in the different theatres of U.S. involvement. I highly recommend it. Whatever that's worth.
To continue the "edit fest" on this post, I just remembered Ford was in a W.W.II movie as well, "Force Ten from Navarone", from 1978. Both the actor's movies I've mentioned are generally considered second tier when compared to the widely known works of the genre such as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Platoon", but I consider them well worth watching. Again, whatever that's worth.

Yeah, I watched the preview for that one somewhere, seemed like a pretty cool movie. What's Mark's character like?

He's a grunt in a squad headed by a veteran sargeant played by Lee Marvin. His (Hamill's) character is basically the opposite of the psycho, "let's kill 'em all", type. If you're planning to see the movie, I'd recommend you don't read the Wiki entry on it. It's a bit spoilerish.

Th Big Red One was a great WWII movie. The director's cut DVD is what a director's cut should be.

As far as Jedi, Mark was paid the most. Not only was his salary the highest for all 3 movies but he also received the highest points out of any of the actors (a non contract reward given by Lucas to his actors). According to a magazine article from the 80's, I between 1.5-3% of the profit for the movies went to Mark (including all the re-releases).

If Mark would've been cast as Indy then his career would've went higher than Ford's. Ford got the break with another blockbuster. Just the same, Mark was a millionaire before the age of 30 and chose to do Broadway and spend more time with his family. I don't think it can be debated who had the more successful personal life between the 2. I think the real jealousy is from Ford since he isn't the main character. It's why he sites character development as why he doesn't want to play Solo again but will play Indy in any film made (Indy=zero character growth).

As for Fisher, growing up most of the girls in my class liked Luke. I really think the jealousy is on her end. She's not as successful as Ford or Mark professionally or personally.

Glad to hear it! My guess on Ford getting the most money for RotJ was, well, just a guess. I don't think you'll find an OT fan out there that doesn't feel Mark should have been compensated the highest.

It makes me so angry when people say stuff like "Oh, Mark Hamil sucks, he never had a career!". He's being in quite a few things, and at the risk of speaking ill of the dead, I think his Joker was better than Ledger's. He must make a few million every year, granted, not as much as your Cruises or Pitts, but it's hardly anything to sneer at. Harrison Ford, on the other hand, hasn't had a great deal of variety in his career, and I haven't seen him display much range. I'd say Mark is the better actor of the two.

???

How rich do you think actors are?

None of them have $50million cash in back accounts!!
