Okay, Goldenrod, let's think this through first.
I realize the sands of Tatooine are hard on the joints, but is
almost complete immersion in oil
a good idea? I'm sure your joint articulations could use a good cleaning with the old compressed air gun followed by the application of some oil from an oil can. Of course, the noise from the air compressor would drown out a lot of dialog with "Master Luke". Also, compressed air guns and oil cans aren't very "sci fi".
But I can't believe that a literal bath in oil is a good idea. I mean, you've got what appear to be exposed wiring across your midsection. I'm sure said wires are insulated, but are the delicate components they are attached to designed to be covered in oil?

I would think droids of all kinds would be sealed against the elements. Artoo got soaking wet on Dagobah, both from being in the pond and from being rained on.

How do we know exactly what the properties of this oil bath are? There could be a syntheticated oil based formula that is used for droids when cleaning them. Threepio does dry off afterwards...

I just tell myself it's "Super Space Oil". It's a much bigger leap when it comes to R2 rolling along on a sand dune. How far would he move in real life?
Answer: Not at all. But hey, it's Star Wars, and I just choose to overlook stuff like that.

It's jojoba oil. It's freakin' dry on Tatooine--3P0 just wants to fight the visible signs of aging.

Well, the oil is probably tailed specifically to lubricate droids, and won't do him any harm.

I use air dusters to clean my PC, but in this case, Threepio is a robot and robots need oil baths to get themselves moving properly again.

Maybe an oil bath is more like an oil change/oil filtering for the droids, but an easy way to do it. Maybe have valves that open up when dunked in oil, and then exchange their old dirty oil for new clean oil ?
After all, we dont see any easy to replace filtering devices on the GFFA droids.

I think the bigger mistake here is Threepio's use of "feel". I mean, we see in ROTJ that droids can apparently be tortured and feel "pain" with their sensors, but how exactly do they feel when they're made up out of scrap metal?
Am I the only one confused by this?

Sublime_Skywalker, they don't feel. It's just part of their programming to make them seem more sociable and human.
