	Okay, how did Luke actually fail in the cave. Yes he took weapons in, but he was faced with an armed opponent, a Sith Lord. He did, as Obi-Wan has done, and battled with him, and managed to chop 'Vader's' head off, how is this different to Obi-Wan slicing Maul or Anakin/Vader? How is it a failure? 	Luke's own fears are what conjured up the Vader image. 	Okay, I see. This seen makes so much more sense now. So basically, Luke's Fear was of Vader, so the Force made him confront Vader, and show what can happen if he doesn't learn to control his fear (ie turn onto a monster like Vader). 	Basically to echo what's already been said, fear led him to bring in his weapons and that same fear created the image of Darth Vader. Luke seeing his own face within the severed Vader helmet is basically meant to say that if he continues on a path of fear, it can lead him to the same fate as Vader. 	Luke said he had a cold feeling, like death. Was that emanating from the cave itself or was Yoda planting that in Luke's head to see how he would react to it? Did Yoda set Luke up to fail? How could a cave be strong with the Dark Side of the Force and a "domain of evil", as Yoda put it? 	Responding just to the original question (since I have no answer for GMJ's probing queries, above), I've always believed that part of Luke's failure is his eagerness to ignite his light saber.
