Indeed why? At Ep3 the emperor says something like there shall be peace in galaxy. Well was there? I think there was if you don't count in the attacks made by rebels. So was there some grievance or something why they wanted to break the galactic empire?

The Empire was a dictatorship. The democracy that had been in place for hundreds of years was taken over by one man with absolute power. Did the non-humans enslaved by the Empire have peace? Did the people who spoke out against the dictatorship have peace? Did the people of Caamas, massacred for believing in the Old Republic have peace? Without freedom, peace is worthless. That's what the Rebel Alliance was fighting for.

You need to understand that Palpatine saying there will be peace in the galaxy is akin to Hitler saying there will be peace in Germany and the world. He's pandering so people think what he's doing is in their best interest, yet in reality he's creating a tyrannical dictatorship where democracy and freedom doesn't exist.

Palpatine's idea of "peace" is the elimination of all freedoms that could potentially sow "chaos" throughout his new Empire. It is impossible to stifle the natural liberties of all beings, so this was obviously unfeasible from the get-go. The Rebel Alliance was designed to take back those freedoms from the evil that stole them.

What the others said - he declared "peace", but at the price of freedom and democracy and all that many people in the galaxy (particularly those who joined the Rebellion) held dear. Plus, with the Imperial navy and army all over the place, it was practically martial law across the galaxy, which is not such a good thing.

Just to add on to what others have said... the iron-fisted rule of martial law across the galaxy was intended to eliminate the possibility that anyone could even pose a military threat to the Empire at all. And without any formidable opposition to the Empire, there would be no chance of actual war... and thus "peace", if peace is just the absence of war.

He took every liberty away by deception. For twenty years plus, the galaxy had to bear the terrible oppression of the Galactic Empire. Thus, the iron rule of the empire caused the rebel alliance to appear.

Exacly, everyone in the galaxy was sick and tired of all the blood of the Clonewars, so the idea of "peace" sounded good at the time, of couse they had no idea of the dictatorship that was to come.

Pretty much what everyone else said. It was a dictatorship and Palpy was just using his powers to gain the trust. It went downhill from there.
