Okay, so in TESB, the Emperor 'rings up' Vader of the Holonet, to inform him that Anakin Skywalker's Son is alive and kicking, and he informs Vader that he could destroy them...

Is Sidious really this scared of the Skywalker Family? Yes, Luke is the so of the Chosen One, but Sidious has mopped the floor with three Jedi, and survived a confrontation with Yoda, the Jedi Grand Master. And, he does have the Chosen One at his side (admittedfly, on the other side ended up being a large shaft, but that is besides the point doh! )

You said it yourself. He mopped the floor with three Jedi.

He merely survived a confrontation with Yoda.

Luke has a higher midichlorian count than Yoda. happy

It's a midichlorian count, not a deflector shield.

And that's why it scares Sidious. He was never confronted and nearly killed by a sentient deflector shield.

The way I see, Palpatine recognized how strong the Force was with the Skywalkers. Had Anakin not been injured on Mustafar, he probably would have been able to overthrow Palpatine within a short period of time. Palpatine realizes that with Vader and Luke, which is basically 1.5 or 1.75 Skywalkers (since Vader obviously isn't at his full potential anymore), he's at a great disadvantage and could easily be overthrown. Sith are supposed to be prepared for their apprentice to overthrow them, but I think Palpatine's personality is now where Plagueis's was: Palpatine became so powerful that the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power.

Maybe it's the fact that Sidious knew Anakin's power, and expected nothing less from Ani's son. He ws afraid of what the power would become. I don't think that Sidious was frightened of Luke at that moment, but he knew the potential.

I think Palpy realized that Luke had the power to potentially destroy him, and he wanted to knock that threat out early or even replace his dried-up apprentice, Vader, with a younger, stronger Force-sensitive.

Heck yes, Luke is a walking time bomb, he has the potential to be the much more powerful then Vader or the Emperor, but what really is scary is the he has not been taught much of anything yet. I would be easy for anyone to mold him into a weapon and take the Palpatines throne.

Palpatine was probably concerned a link to the family Vader thought he lost would give him new motivations: Vader did desire to rule the galaxy with Padme, but now he has another chance with Luke.

Given that the Jedi had been destroyed, only a Skywalker had the potential to be a threat to him.

But how much experience would Luke need though until he would become a threat? Raw Power alone without experience wouldn't be enough to defeat Sidious

Well, I don't think he was afraid of the Skywalkers(Luke in particular). He recognized their strength in the force & the potential they had.

But, he also recognized that they had the potential to destroy him if they teamed up. In fact, I think palpatine saw the potential for Luke to get to vader 7 get him to help overthrow palpatine.

Presumably not too much longer given that he was able to defeat Vader (who has been described as having 80% of Palpatine's power) with a few years of training at most.

I wouldn't say the Emporer was necessarily scared by the Skywalker lineage, but knew to be catious dealing with them. I mean, he dodged the bullet with Anakin by manipulating and turning him, and then got lucky with Vader being diced and sliced.

Luke would need to be turned or severly injured as well, if not killed. He did pose a threat as a Jedi alone, plus that he was directly the blood of Anakin.

There's that famous saying, I believe from the art of war, that the best use of an enemy is turning them to your cause and gaining an ally. That definitly applies to Luke and Anakin.

What few years? As far as I know, the only training Luke had was the three months on Dagobah, as Yoda's apprentice. Personally, I've always found Luke's increased sufficiency with the Force in ROTJ rather questionable, considering the limited training he had.
