Sounds like a G-rated Lucas retcon along the lines of "Greedo shot first" to me. I read the rest of the article about Womp rats and it says Biggs and Luke collected bounties on them. So, while flying the Skyhopper, Luke only stunned Womp rats. Then also, at other times Luke and Biggs apparently hunted on foot and killed them to collect bounties.

	Hunters have nothing against deer except respect. They are a good source of meat. Their are those that hunt for trophy, but aren't greedy enough that they don't donate their deer to feed the hungry.
