Obi-Wan dosn't remember R2-D2
I just recently re-watched a new hope and i noticed that when obi-wan rescues luke from the sand people and luke starts to explain how r2 says that he belongs to obi-wan, obi-wan just says "i don't seem to remember ever owning a droid". Now i know Obi-Wan never actually owned R2 but how could he forget him, and i know its been almost 19 years sence he last saw him, but they spent a lot of time together during the PT.

Remember the only time they were rally togather was in TPM. Other than that and the Dog fight in Epi.III they didn't really connect all tat much. Besides Obi-Wan was fighting all over the place. So it's easy to see why he wouldn't have a clear memory of a droid.

I think its just one of those intentionally obscure statements from Obi-Wan, who is technically telling the truth because he never owned R2, but doesn't want to bring up any details. And there could be any number of reasons for that.
In other words, I think he did remember (especially after knowing Leia sent the droid, and probably before) but didn't want to say anything.

Nothing in ANH even remotely implies that Obi-Wan has forgotten Artoo. He knows perfectly well who Artoo is.

PT bashers will jump in and claim this is a plot hole. We all just assumed they'd never met before ANH. Now we know differently. No plot hole here - move along, move along...

I think he did remember. Didn't he say "I don't remember owning a droid" or R2 unit. Well the Jedi don't really own anything anyway. So I'd say he knew who it was and just tried to hide yet another thing from Luke.

Well obviously the out of universe explanation is that Obi probably hadn't ever met Artoo before when the script was written, but it's easy to say that as other people have said he was just trying to keep things from Luke and avoid awkward questions about his past that could possibly lead to more awkward questions about Anakin.

Wouldn't R2 remember Obi-Wan? If so, he didn't tell 3PO apparently.

3PO, yes, but not R2. Note at the end of RotS, the line is just "have the protocol droid's mind wiped"
In the EU Dark Nest books (some 30 years ABY), R2 actually shows Luke some holos of Anakin and Padme.

Personally, I think Ob1 remembered R2 but here's a thought...droids are about as common as microwave ovens or
Redbox
in the GFFA. Who's to say Ob1 didn't see countless other blue/silver/white astromechs during his time as a general?
Of course, he did become a hermit immediately following ROTS and the droid duo, who I'm sure made an impression at
some
point, were among the last characters he saw before his seclusion.
Then again, that wizard
was
just a crazy old man...perhaps the memory of R2 was fading along with his continence.

Didn't Obi-Wan say "hello my little friend" to R2? He remembers him. Also, keep in mind that R2 spent most of his time around Padme, and then Anakin. So Obi-Wan was telling the truth when he says he never owned R2.

I have to say im kindof leaning toward the idea that he remembered R2. Because in ROTS Obi and Anikin depended greatily on R2 during the whole rescue palpatine from grevious part, and he certainly recoganized R2 during the space battle.

I'm going with he did remember R2, just he told a half truth if you will. He never owned R2 at any point, so when Luke told him he thought it belonged to him he stated the truth, it didn't and never did.

Obviously, nothing in the films indicate that Obi-Wan doesn't know who R2 is.
The much better question is why the line was written to be so ambiguous. A simple answer could be that because the droids are meant to practically tell the story, for once GL actually did have in mind that R2 and Obi-Wan had met. Especially seeing how Leia knows Obi-Wan. It doesn't have to mean GL knew Obi-Wan knew R2 because R2 once belonged to Anakin, only that he knew R2's current owners in the past (Bail Organa).
