Correct. Rewatch the PT. He doesn't own a droid, much less Artoo. He is assigned an Astromech droid for the three Jedi Fighters he uses. Anakin was given Artoo as a gift by Padme, since he needed Artoo more than he needed Threepio for the Clone Wars. And vice versa. In the OT and beyond, Luke was technically the owner of both droids. But he let Threepio stay with Leia since she had more use for him than Luke did. Luke was a fighter pilot like his father and thus having Artoo along made sense.

Stewie: "Oh, this is an even bigger jackpot than when the Emperor
came up with the formula for great Star Wars dialouge."
Palpatine: "Something, something, something. Dark side.
Something, something, something complete."

I have to give a tip o' the hat to Guinness, who gives barely perceptible tweaks to his characterization. Watch his eyes as Solo defends the appearance of the Falcon. Also watch his head when Chewy pops up out of the floor boards.

Or, as I'm sure has been previously noted, the way that his speaking voice sounds like that of a slightly-senile old hermit until he admits to being Obi-Wan Kenobi and starts sounding like the Jedi Knight he once was.

You also have to account for the fact that there are Thousands of R2 Units in the galaxy. R2 could have easily been another.

I believe OBi was just a bit crazy. Think about it..he survived and lived the purges. He has been mostly alone as a hermit on a desolate planet for almost two decades..so I think he is many more that a bit crazy.

TLJ Edit: Making a new post for each reply doesn't work, if that was what you tried to do. So I left the one that actually said anything.
