Hi,

Will George Lucas ever release a cut of the Original Trilogy with the missing scenes, eg. Biggs on Tatooine, the Wampa attack on the Rebel base, etc.?

Or for that matter extended editions of the prequels with the deleted footage placed back in the movies?

Cheers.

I doubt that will happen.

You can find a lot of those scenes online.

Not really. If you actually see the Biggs and Luke scene you can tell that it's addition would have made A New Hope extremely twee. I dare say that the same can be said for the rest of the deleted scenes.

According to mu urban dictionary: "Something that is sweet, almost to the point of being sickeningly so. As a derogatory descriptive, it means something that is affectedly dainty or quaint, or is way too sentimental."

That actually wouldn't surprise me. Not because of GL or anything, but just because of the fact that they're thirty year old deleted scenes. They might not have properly archived them, and if they did then the prints could be so bad that they're not even salvageable. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter, because I can't really see them putting out DVD sets multiple times without including deleted scenes if they had them available.

Um, I think all the "missing" and deleted scenes are properly archived becaues they're all on the same
piece of film stock, print, reel, whatever it's called along with all the scenes.

Not necessarily, but still what you're saying is likely. Either way, even if they were properly archived, the condition could still be horrible, going back to what I said in my previous post about how that's the most likely. After all, if LFL had them and didn't release them on their three or four CT DVD releases, then that's sort of a dumb move in my opinion. Deleted scenes are one of the best parts of DVDs, at least from my perspective.

They are the best parts of DVDs for me as well...

Now that they have gone to releasing 2 versions of DVDs now, one cheaper one with just the movie and one more xpensive one with all the special features, I base my entire decision on whether I buy the more xpensive one on whether or not there are deleted scenes! If there are none, I don't bother, and just buy the cheap one! nerd

Surely a release of the 'Lost Cut' wouldn't be out of the question? It was clearly in decent enough condition for David Reynolds to watch, & for a couple of segments to end up on the Behind The Magic CD-ROM. I doubt very much that Reynolds was watching the print itself, either - most likely they transferred it to a tape format.
I'm not sure if it's B&W because of colour fading or if the work print was done in B&W to save costs, but I'd still buy a DVD of it, even with no colour & dodgy sound.

As for the Biggs scenes on BTM - they're in colour, with slightly better sound, so may have been sourced from a later rough cut.

I doubt very much that LFL doesn't have a fair bit of unreleased material from all three films that would be perfectly acceptable for a DVD release - some ended up in Empire Of Dreams, for a start.
