Okay, when Lando opens the door, Vader sits up and Han goes for his gun and fires off a few rounds. Vader simply raises his hand to stop the blasts.

So I've always wondered, what actually caused this.

Was it a force power Vader used to diffuse or absorb the shots?

Or was it that awesome armor he wears?

Or perhaps he simply can't feel it because he has a robotic arm?

Or was it that awesome armor he wears? Look the Stormtrropers armor was able to be blasted through so I say no to this thought.

Or perhaps he simply can't feel it because he has a robotic arm? Again, let's look at Luke his robotic hand was damaged in "Jedi." So I think the same thing would have happened to Vaders hand.

...Or he used the hand that he wore a Mandalorian Crushgaut glove on. Both that & "using the force" are equally correct, if using EU sources to find the answer.

Bah
"Unconfirmed reports hinted that at least one of Darth Vader's black gauntlets was a long-lost Sith-imbued crushgaunt. This is possibly his right hand, as it was rumored to be "indestructible", a most likely exaggerated legend attributed to the durability of crushgaunts."

That does not mean he actually wears one. And it'd be horrible if he did. What a needless IU-rumour.

According to the EU, his robotic hands were actually made from the smelted remains of IG-88's great-grandfather, an almost indestructible battledroid that met his demise in combat with Qui-Gon Jinn and Count Dooku (back when he was a good guy). The parts were sold to scrap merchants throughout the galaxy and eventually ended up in the possession of Watto who later sold the melted slag to Palpatine.

...nah, I just made that up, but you'd almost believe it, right? wink

Vader "deflected" it .... true, but it still stung.

In Marvel Comics Star Wars #35

During the dinner - Vader is shaking his hand out and says,

"My hand smarts from that ... Captain Solo, you will regret your callous decision to fire at me." p.12

Strictly speaking, there's no way anyone at Marvel could've possibly known that Vader had metal arms and legs when TESB was being made.

Not to mention that he gets whacked by Luke in the same metal arm during their Bespin duel and gets all pissed off and clutches at it.

Plus shouts in pain when Luke hacks off his clearly metallic hand in ROTJ.. tongue

The part that Luke hit during the duel was rather high up, so it was probably still flesh underneath.

what a great scene that was. it really showed off Vader's power and showed how wimpy a blaster is against him.

sorry to be a bore, but isnt it just basically because he has a metallic, artificial hand?? he can obviously deflect laserblasts with it. why not? its a good feature to have in a survival suit, no? a bit like how his shoulder was able to deflect luke's lightsaber in the later scene. even if its not a feature its doubtful vader has any feeling in it. its more likely he needed a new one fitted shortly after or at least had some repairs made to it. if it were the force then surely the jedi would do it in the prequels - why bother with their lightsabers when facing the destroyer droids? they have two hands and only one lightsaber :P
