I would just hope that if they put it out onto Blue Ray, they include two versions of each film in one giant boxed set. First, put out completely digital versions of the unaltered originals. Do not make a single change to them other than the digital remastering. Second, Lucas can put out a final "definitive edition". He should sit down, think about everything he wants added, removed, altered, etc. and then do it. Just go wild. He should make all of the changes he wants to make in this definitive edition so he doesn't have to release a new set every time he wants to change how fast a creature blinks.

Exactly my thoughts.

SW on Blu-ray could happen eventually, if the brand becomes mainstream like DVD's.

Being a Blu-ray (PS3) owner, I hope it happens. That being said, I don't normally buy movies for $29. The technology (Hardware + Software) is way too expensive to count on yet.

If Blu-ray is in control 3 years from now, expect the cash cows at Lucasfilms to get a piece...

They should definitely fix things like the audio ( and subtitles ) on the ANH DVD giving us the botched line "more well than you can imagine". rolling_eyes

Agreed. It's not really economically practical at this point. I myself don't have a Blu Ray player, so no rush. tongue

What do you mean? I never noticed that not being there in the 2004 DVD release or anything.

Never gonna happen. First of all, there were parts of the original negative that were lost forever -- too badly deteriorated to restore. From what I understand, that's the reason we got the different line from Luke after R2 got spit out on Dagobah. That's reason enough for GL to never release the originals again, let alone his "my movies weren't finished!" line.

That original line wasn't included in the un-changed originals DVD release?

This is all incorrect. The negative is in no worse shape than any other big 70s movie and the alternate lines were from alternate mixes dating back to the theatrical days. Plus that's sound, the negative has nothing to do with it. (and the negative could be fed to a pool of sharks and it still wouldn't matter. The negatives for Dr. Strangelove and Citizen Kane are long gone but restoration is still basic, standard practice from other material)

You can't hear the "th" sound at the end of "wealth", and the subtitles say "well"... which doesn't make any sense.

I think that's just what ended up being said, hence the subtitles. I could be wrong though.

I never said it wasn't in the script. I'm simply saying that it's possible "more well" was what ended up being said, hence why they would put it in the subtitles. Sometimes actors screw up lines and they just keep it that way.

They talked about the negative deteriorating 12 bloody years ago in the VHS SE release. Even showed a comparison between original and restored footage-the original negatives had gotten to the point where they were right on the edge of not being usable any longer.

For a long time I thought it was "more well". Which doesn't make as much sense as "more wealth", that's for sure, but when you're younger you don't realize that.

Even if the original versions aren't quite the same quality as other Blu-Ray movies, I still think they should be released for the sake of being complete. George Lucas making unnecessary changes is fine as long as he keeps the original versions available, so people can remember that these movies were already great in the first place.

I seem to recall hearing "more wealth" in the original version, but I don't have it to check. All I have anymore is the DVD.
