Rahm Kota was an important rebel leader before Yavin.

In ESB after Leia gives the pilots instructions for covering the Hoth evacuation, she does not say "May the Force be with you" but rather "Good luck." In ANH and ROTJ the other two times were during Rebellion offensive maneuvers. In ESB the action is defensive to cover an orderly retreat. Considering it is a battle scene, it should be an iconic moment to do so. Any explanation for how some times it is appropriate and some times it is not? Perhaps something about how Force users can detect when the Force is with them, or conversely, their enemy? For instance, during this entire routing of Hoth, Vader could be observing to himself, "The Force is with me now." In ANH Vader volunteered that the Force was with Obi-Wan.

Just because they're not Jedi doesn't mean they can't believe in the Force. Both Ackbar and Dodonna were old enough to fondly remember the Old Republic Jedi.

Pretty much. Non-Jedi also believe in the Force because they have seen what Force users can do.

I agree. Plus, I always felt that The Rebellion tried to hold with Old Republic values, remembering it in a sort of nostalgic "tradition" and "mentality", of which the Jedi were a major part. I like this, cos it shows that the Rebellion looked upon the Jedi order fondly, as the original members did at the time of the petition of the 2000.

oh thanks, I know that was a noobish question, but I always didnt get it. Thanks!

Same reason communist propaganda in Eastern Europe included Westerns from the Indians' perspective. Granted, South Dakota or New Mexico looks remarkably like East Germany, and the Indians have Clairol-black hair and brownface, but it was the thought that counted.

What?

Seriously. Communist propaganda did. It's a weird thing looking at it.

But the reason was because these were the victims of The Empire.

Maybe the Rebellion were a bunch of religious nutjobs. I mean, the Jedi had planned a coup against the properly elected and legitimate supreme chancellor of the Republic basically because of a religious difference of opinion regarding the Force. Yes, Palpatine had engineered a war, but the Jedi planned to dismantle a democratic government, disenfranchising billions of citizens rather than holding a press conference to air their concerns and evidence. The Jedi apparently thought the average galactic citizen was an idiot and only the Jedi with their divine insight through the Force should impose their superior wisdom on the unwashed masses.

Maybe the lunatic fringe got control of the Rebellion early on and planned to impose a galactic theocracy after the Empire was out of the way. Maybe the Rebels were afraid that anyone who didn't say "May the Force be with you" would be accused of being a Sith sympathizer after the Empire was out of the way and would be subjected to witch hunt trials.
