	Yeah, there's no "reason". 	I think the fact that Wedge was a minor Character that survived all 3 OT movies makes him a fan favorite. 	He's kind of the only recurring background character in the OT, isn't he? Perhaps on some level Lucas used Wedge to stand in for the "common man" struggling to make it through the Galactic Civil War. Someone the audience could relate to/pull for that wasn't a telekinetic mystic or a dashing rogue.
