Darth_Laudrup posted:Well Vader and Tarkin answer that question in the movie. One reason is that they wanted to make sure that the plans were onboard the ship, before they blew it up. Another reason was that they wanted to capture and interrogate a highranking Rebel member in order to get information on hidden rebel bases.
brodiew posted:This may be an old school question, but I just thought of it. If Vader's main concern was retrieving the Deathstar plans, why not shoot Leia's ship out of the sky? The obvious: political cnsequences? confirm the plans were on the ship? strange feeling about Leia? What else would keep from destroying the Tantive IV?
CloneUncleOwen posted:That, and if Vader just pulled up and blew the ship to kingdom come, that would be the end of the franchise.
Rogue...Jedi posted:They definitely needed to check the ship records to see if it had managed to transmit the plans to anyone, and if so, to whom. Also, the chance to capture a leader of the Rebellion for interrogation is too good to pass up.
