I thought Jabba's name was Jabathahut. I didn't realize that his name was Jabba, and he was a Hutt.
Jabba The Hutt. Duh!

I used to think that the reason Obi-Wan vanished in A New Hope was because Vaders' saber disintegrated him.

Yep, I thought that too. So for the longest time me and my sisters would play Star Wars and whenever someone got hit with a lightsaber, they had to "disappear".

In the scene he says, "Old Ben lives out beyound the Dune Sea. He's kind of a strange old hermit.." I mis-heard it was, "Old Ben loves out beyond the Dune Sea. He's kind of a strange old kermit." For a long time, I wondered if Kermit the Frog was a Jedi. I was a very odd child.

OMG! That is the funniest thing I've ever read!

You know, I don't remember any misconceptions I had as a child. However, I do remember that when I rewatched the movies as an adult (I don't think I saw them from when I was 24 to about 30) I saw them in a completely different light. There were things that I just didn't recall. And of course by then Lucas had made the [expletive] Special Editions plain and the cheap knock off, ANH. wink

Also, when I was 11 and was seeing the movie in the theater we used to yell out lines from the Mad Magazine version of the movie. When the Jawas first appeared we'd yell out:

"Hey! Weren't you a munchkin in the Wizard of Oz?"

I was 7 when Star Wars came out in 1977. So I got to see a movie called Star Wars, not A New Hope. I also thought it was called a light saver. After Luke has dinner and comes back to find R2 gone I thought he gave 3PO an electric shock trying to kill him. For some reason I thought all the Jawas we female.

Lastly, the first time I saw ANH I thought General Dodonna said "propane torpedos"... well, needless to say, my folks weren't thrilled at the thought of me being near the grill for a loooooooooooooooooong time since I so love to tinker with things.

I thought it was "Lock asphalt into attach position". I thought they were planning on dropping concrete on the Death Star.

LOL!! laugh Between propane torpedos and asphalt, I think the Death Star would have been destroyed even better than what everyone saw in the movie! LOL! laugh I wish I had had misconceptions like these.

That might explain why in the SE the Death Star has that blue ring around it when it explodes. That damn thing WAS running on propane.

Just remembered this one:

In ANH when Han says "Over my dead body." and Greedo replies something that sounds like "coo-le-huma"

i thought greedo was saying, "Cool the humor." as if he was telling han "Stop being such a wise guy."

I don't know why I didn't just read the subtitle: "That's the idea."

probably I couldn't read yet. lol.

To this day I still don't know what Han says while getting ready to fly the Shuttle in ROTJ.

Han: "Mumble mumble"
Luke: Yeah, she's coming up.

I was confused by Threepio's accent when I was a kid and thought R2 was actually called AHHH-TOOO. It never dawned on me that he was calling him R 2. LOL!

Every SINGLE time me and my brother watch ROTJ, when Genral Madine starts talking right after Mon Mothma introduces him, both my brother and I shout out, "It's mouse man!!" Why? Because to us, he just looks like a mouse. It's so weird. Must be that 80's hair and beard.

I never knew what he said there either, considering Luke's response
I assumed it had something to do with Leia.
But, after reading your post I popped it in and put on the subtitles
and vwa-la.... he's talkin' about the shuttle.

Wha? I too, assumed that it has something to do with Leia since she does, afte all, pop into the scene shortly after he says that. Hmm... talking about the shuttle eh? Well, I guess I learn something new each time I watch Star Wars. Closed captioning is the best thing ever.

I used to think Shuttle Tiderian was the Millennium Falcon in disguise.

I thought Boba Fett was a type of Stormtrooper.

I wondered how Han, Leia, and Chewie could breath in outerspace when they were in the asteroid feild. I never noticed their breathing masks.

I thought in Episode I, the droid battleship was the death star, and when Anakin blew it up, he only blew up the outer ring part of it... Then in episode IV, when Luke blew it up he only partially injured it, and in Episode VI, Lando just finished it off.

I thought lightsabers were called lifesavers.
