Mon Mothma, in ROTJ, in reference to plans to destroy the second death star:
"...Many BOTHANS died to bring us this information..."
As a kid, I thought that she said BODDANS died. I thought Boddans were hobbits.
Imagine my surprise (dissapointment?) when the EU showed us what Bothans were.
But seriously, before the EU answered this, what did others think BOTHANS were?

I still don't know (and don't want to find out personally. It just doesn't mater to me.)
Bothan Spies are a group of people that are sympethetic to the Alliance. A bunch of their people (namely the spies) died to get the information to the Alliance.

I didn't get Boba Fett at all. I thought he was just a special stormtrooper, or something. I also didn't understand that he was working for himself. I thought he was part of the Empire. I still don't understand to this day WHY Darth Vader thought it would be a good idea to freeze Luke in carbonite to transport him to the Emperor. Finally, I thought there were 7 Star Wars movies. If only...
Also, was the moon the Ewoks lived on called Endor or was the planet called Endor? The Emperor kept on saying "the Sancuary moon" so I'm still not sure if what the name game was here.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
after seeing the New movies and living in the old movies, alot of what questions I had have changed.
The main one was the fall of Anakin and the rise of Vader. I always thought that Obi-wan and Anakin had a big falling out and that Anakin was upset that he ws being held back.
another one was that Anakin, hoping to become the most powerful Jedi, does personal searching of the Sith archives and learns what the dark side is.
another was the fact that the Jedi ws so easily manipulated by ONE SITH. The fact that Palpatine could hide the dark side so well, yet be able to control so many using the dark side and to weild that much anger and hatred and not be touched by any jedi or discovered by them.
and another one, that Palpatine was a Sith. I just thought that Vader was the only one and like many of the EU novels, he was just a Jedi that went down the wrong side of the Force. The fact that there was more than 2 to begin with and the fact that Palpatine can so easily "replace" his apprentices the minute they have died. Makes me wonder if Palpatine knew of the seed of Anakin and that he was just using Anakin to get back at the Jedi and was hoping the children of Anakin will be the ones to replace as his apprentices

"Your faith in your friends is yours."
I thought the Emperor meant "Your faith in your friends is yours alone" when in fact he meant, "Your faith in your friends is
your
weakness."

There are WAAAY too many Dark Side fans
among Star Wars fans. The whole point of SW
is that good wins in the end.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
My aunt and uncle had to drag me to see Star Wars (*not* "A New Hope") in '77 - I was 10 at the time. I took the title literally and thought it was two hours of hollywood actors duking it out in a boxing ring (which I had absolutely no interest in). Man, I led a sheltered life...

Only one comes to my mind right now and that is I thought General Veers said:
"Yes Lord Vader, we've reached the main power generator the shield will be down in moments. You may start your
occupancy
" Which made me think that Vader was going to live in Echo Base! (I was about 4 or 5 at the time though that I thought it was this though.

I always thought Veers line was: "You may start your napping," instead of "landing."

Ok, here are mine:
i thought lightsabers were lifesavers,
i thought darth vader was called the Dark Invader,
i thought yoda was a muppet that got lost and became a jedi,
i thought luke got obi wans lightsaber and in ROTJ he got quigon's,(this was after i saw TPM)
i, like every1 else couldnt get it through my head that vader says, "No, i am your father" i thought it was "luke i am your father."
in ESB i thought that vader was lukes clone because of the dagobah thing,
after seeing TPM i thought that anakin became evil as a kid,
i thought that jabba couldnt talk right because of his huge toungue so he spoke jibberish,
i thought that the death star in ROTJ was the same 1 as in ANH only badly damaged.
thats all i can remember for now but ill think of more later.
P.S. i think that my funniest 1 is the 1 about yoda being a muppet that got lost and became a jedi

Star Wars Saga: Where will it go from here?
Watching the whole saga concept, i just wonder... where will Lucas take his saga from here?
Will he keep exploting all that merchandising movement by creating stories or formats alike any star wars line?? for example that new 3D thing??

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
First time poster. Sorry if this one's a bit long!
Various misconceptions I’ve had throughout the years before coming to the truth:
- lightsabers were lifesavers
- “Dark” Vader was a robot controlled by the Emperor, as were the storm toopers. He was also a top ranking storm trooper and that’s why he was black – like a black belt in karate is better than white.
- Thought that the troopers were idiots for wearing plastic instead of metal armor.
- Didn’t understand why Muppet/Muppet Babies characters kept appearing in the movies (like Jabba).
- “Damn ‘tooine” was what people called Tatooine when they didn’t like it.
- C3PO’s circular front area was a CD-ROM drive so that he could run software and such
- I was pretty young (7-ish) and didn’t understand parody, so have a good laugh at this one: Spaceballs and Star Wars were in the same series of movies.
- I haven’t seen Spaceballs in a long time, but tell me if this has anything to do with it – For the longest time, I thought there was a scene where R2 had a girlfriend who looked like him and they were escaping the Death Star as the Rebels were destroying it from the outside. When I watched the SE versions I was old enough to know that there were changes made and thought that this scene was edited out because it was too silly. Maybe it was a dream I had… X-D
- Thought that Mark Hammil smoked a lot between shooting ANH and ESB because of the change in his face. Later learned that it was because of a car accident.
- Spent a long time wondering why this dude’s name was Boba Fat when he wasn’t fat at all and started wondering if I was misunderstanding something and that the “giant slug” was Boba Fat.
- Thought I had missed a movie that featured Han and Lando’s meeting and wondered what it was that Han had done to make Lando call him names.
- I thought Darth Vader was lying about being Luke’s father
- Luke fell through a trash disposal silo that emptied out through the bottom opening into either space or the ocean below.
- When Yoda tells Obi-Wan that there is another hope in ROTJ, I thought there was some unseen brother or sister that Luke and Leia didn’t know about that Yoda somehow sensed.
- Thought there was some plot hole where Leia was told that she was Luke’s sister because my attention span when I was younger was poor and I ignored the scene in ROTJ where this happened because of the lack of action and my poor understanding of plot development.
- Chewie was the big brother of Wicket; however, I also thought that Chewie was an adopted dog and that the Ewoks were alien bears.
- Obi-Wan Kenobi sounding a lot like “only one can know me” had some deep significance I thought I couldn’t comprehend.
I had an active imagination but little comprehension as a kid.

like many people, i called lightsabers "light-savers" and because of this i assumed that that it was because they made light, so you could turn the lights out.
I also thought that General Ackbar was a traitor because of his sigh of relief when the large star destroyer was destroyed.
and also, i thought that Han solo was pronounced "hane" coz of the American accents. lol
will i ever be that young. lol
