Like most people who saw this when they were young, I think I had trouble figuring out the cave scene in ESB and Luke facing Vader. I knew it wasn't Vader but hadn't come to understand the whole meaning behind Luke seeing himself.

Same here- but also- and I am sorry this might be the wrong place to bring it up- but why was the cave on Degobah so strong with the Dark Side of the force? Never understood that- I mean wasn't Yoda like the King of Degobah?

^Yoda set it up, he warned Luke not to take his weapons. The illusion was then created by Yoda when Luke ignored his advice.

I remember when I first saw the original trilogy when I was seven or so. The one thing that I had the biggest misconnception about was the fact that there were two Death Stars. I thought the one in Return of the Jedi was the first one because I thought that a huge chunk of it was blown off from the explosion. In ESB when they were torturing Han Solo I thought the were preparing him for the carbonite freezing. This isn't something I had a misconception about, its just that I recall becoming scared of Vader, after I saw him choke people to death especially that one rebel that he breaks his neck. Ironically when Vader died I felt sad for him. And I also recall thinking that when Han killed greedo his blaster bolts melted him into a skeleton which also scared me.

Let's see...

I used to think that the creature that attacks Luke in the trash compactor is the same creature that attacks R2-D2 in Dagobah.

I never believed that Luke was Vader's son, at that age I didn't want to believe it.

I thought that Princess Leia was ruler or the world and I was confused why Darth Vader ordered her around.

I also felt really bad for the tauntauns in Hoth.

I thought that Obi-Wan was Vader's brother. I thought that the reason Vader looked like he did in ROTJ when Luke took off his mask was that he had been in the mask for a very long time. Even more than he was. I thought that he was Obi-Wan's little brother. But before that when I hadn't seen ROTJ I thought Obi-Wan was his father. I came down when I was 2 years old wanted to play with Dad and saw that Han jumped down in the garbage pit. I am Swedish and lightsaber is called "ljussabel" but I said laser sword and thought thought that it really was called lightsword. In Swedish "ljussvärd". I thought that the vision Luke had in the cave was Luke's evil twin brother who had joined Vader. I always called Vader "The Black Knight". And I had a crush on Leia. I hated Han Solo for taking her away from me...

I remember seeing a boxed Rancor toy at a flea market and thinking the Rancor was a Jedi. The box had "Return of the Jedi" written on it, see?

I remember also reading the script before seeing ANH and giving Vader a gravelly voice like Boba Fett.

And I also thought - up until not too long ago - that Steve McQueen was one of the guards at the begining on ANH.

One of mine was Admiral Ackbar was a guy that SMACKed people with BARs. I don't know how I misheard that.

Dude, that's funny!
I never thought that, but I know exactly which one you're talking about!
It's totally understandable.

I also thought that the Jawas were in service of the Empire when they took Artoo and C-3PO.

3. I thought that 'Bantha Poodoo' was Bantha poo-poo. Even the subtitles didn't help that one. How many 10yr olds know that fodder is food?

OMG...this is going to sound bad, and as much as I know about Star Wars and all...

I feel like such an @$$!

You just now enlightened me to the fact that Bantha Poodoo was referring to food! I totally thought it was "poo-poo" up until this moment.

doh!

I feel like a bigger @$$ now because I did my homework and realized that we were both right originally: Bantha poodoo is poo poo!

fodder = food
poodoo = $#!^

Star Wars terrified me. I first saw the 1997 re-release of IV when I was five, and I was fine until the Stormies appeared. They scared the living daylights out of me. I have no idea why. Vader didn't scare me, TIEs didn't scare me, nothing scared me except for those stupid troopers. The only thing I remembered about seeing it in theaters was my dad picking me up and carrying me out the door. I'm pretty sure I was screaming, eyes still rivited on the "Skellington Men," or so I called them. I didn't see any of the Star Wars films again until I was almost eight. I completely disconnected the stormies from Star Wars and had forgotten all about the first Star Wars adventure I had. Imagen my suprise when they popped up again in Return of the Jedi. I was stunned. Slack-Jawed. Someone had stolen George Lucas's idea! Oh, dear! Yeah, and speaking of ROTJ, did anyone else stop breathing during the whole blue-stuff-that-apparently-hurt-a-lot shooting out of the old guys hands thing? My mom had to slap my back to make my lungs work again. I unconsiously hold my breath when people are being hurt in movies. Well, if it's convincing. rolling_eyes
