I thought the Death Star - as it appeared - in ROTJ was complete. Well it turned out to be complete, but I didn't grasp that it was DESIGNED to look incomplete. I mean, I understood it was supposedly not fully operational, but as for the jagged physical design, I just thought that was just the design.
I remember wondering how come they made the SECOND Death Star look so crappy.
In the first movie, I did think Leia said "Darth Vader.. Only you could be so
bald
!"
I thought it was pretty funny too, at the time. I was really young, and the word 'bold' just wasn't even in my vocabulary yet. And I actually was kind of happy when he turned out to be bald in ROTJ.
And of course, "Bubble Fett."
"Bubble Fett and Beetle"
(Greedo) were like my favorite characters.

I also use to have a hell of a time distinguishing between the "Star Wars" music and the "Superman" movie theme music. I still do, truthfully... Hm, I have to hear the Superman music again..

- Life savers
- I used to think it was the same as Star Trek (shame on me!)
Actually, I never watched any of the movies all the way through until I was about 15, so I don't have a lot of the misconceptions that most people have.

This is embarassing but when I first saw Star Wars when I was 11 years old in 1977. I thought Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were just ordinary people and after the movie was done, they went back to their original jobs, whatever they were. Since they were unknown actors I didn't think they did that for a living!!!...LOL...

I was in first grade when my friend told me that there was an Episode 7, 8, and 9. Apparently, Darth Vader returned and he didn't need to wear his mask anymore because Luke took it off for him in RotJ...and I believed it. Oh well.

When the MF was being pulled towards the Death Star in ANH, i always thought that Vader was using the Force. All those years, i always imagined Vader standing there in the docking bay with his hand outstreched, using the Force to pull the MF into the Death Star.
Apparently, i missed Han's "We're caught in its tractor beam!" line.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
This thread is VERY long, and I don't have time to read the whole thing, so I may be posting some repeats...
I saw Episode IV was first released, although I was only about 5 at the time.
1. I thought that the Stormtroopers and Darth Vader were really droids or robots...I think this was reinforced when Battlestar Galactica came out, even. The fact that the writing on the back of the Stormtroopers suit looked a lot like the word "Oil" also gave me this impression.
2. I thought that the Jawas were the "Sandpeople"
3. I thought that the Death Star was a planet that belonged to Darth Vader
4. I had no idea about politics, thus had no idea what the Empire/Emperor/Rebel Alliance was all about.
5. I thought Vader's ability to choke someone from a distance was somehow related to the electronics in his suit, not the Force
6. ...and from my 5 year old's ability in reading from the "Star Wars Storybook" published by Scholastic, I thought that Tataouine was pronounced TA-TOON-IE. The word was never mentioned in the first 3 movies (that I can remember) thus my surprise when I heard it pronounced in Episode I.

I used to think, until I actually read the crawl before ROTJ, that the Death Star II was the first Death Star and Luke just blew a little chunk out of it.
Also recently, when I was watching TPM with my four year old cousin, he thought at the end when it shows the Jedi standing together and it shows Yoda, that the little short guy with the big ears behind him was his dad. I know his name but I can't think of it now.
He also calls the Emperor "The Empire".
Tatoonie is funny, I always thought Coruscant was "Corus-skant" Who can blame ya

I thought Jedi was "Jedee" at first...I saw the word written before I had ever heard it pronounced, I think it was on some "Return of the Jedi" videogame.

1. I thought yoda was one of those gremlin things.
2. The ewoks were little kid wookies.
3. I thought the stormtroopers came from a hoth because they wore white armor all the time.
4. I thought old ben was luke's uncle and wanted revenge for his death by killing vader.
5. Luke could grow new hands.
6. and last but not least I thought luke and leia were a hot item (yuck)!

I used to think that the length of the lightsaber was the indicator for who would win the respective duel. I know it is true in real life anyway.

Wow! That
No Smoking PSA
takes me back! If you're old enough to remember that, then you might understand this. When I was 5, I thought
Star Wars
was some kind of sequel to
Logan's Run
. I think one of my cousin's led me to believe that.
