Yeah, I had that "Tat-toon-nie" thing going as well, as did all my classmates.

wow i'm a late comer to this thread but my misconception was that i thought that the emperor's reign lasted more then just a scant 20 years from episode 3# ROTS to episode #4 ANH, i was under the impression that it was at least like 30 years or more

My misconceptions started before I'd even seen Episode IV. I knew who the main Jedi characters were (Luke, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon), but I thought they were all fighting amongst each other, like teaming up and all the age they appear in Episodes I and IV, Obi-Wan still being a padawan to Qui-Gon.

I used to pronounce Obi-Wan Kenobi "Obi-Wakenobi".

I thought Padme had a clone or something before I saw the end of Episode I. I knew who she'd turn out to be later on in life (wife to Anakin, Senator for Naboo), but I couldn't figure out why she was being Queen at the same time she was on Tatooine.

I used to pronounce Lightsaber "Light saver".

Darth Vader used to be "Dark Vader".

Like many others, I thought the stormtroopers were robots. I thought the panel on their backs with the circle and the two vertical lines said "OIL," and that was where you put the oil in the robots.

An older kid told me that Endor was supposed to be Earth, because all the other planets had, like, deserts or ice, but Endor was "just normal," with trees and stuff, just like Earth. The fact that the planet Earth has deserts and polar ice and everything as well as trees doesn't seem to have occurred to us.

And, of course, since Endor=Earth, we thought the Ewoks were the missing link between ape and human, because it happened long, long ago, before humans evolved on Earth.

I was, however, the only kid I knew who understood that the Death Star in ROTJ was a new Death Star, and that it was all skeletal because it wasn't finished yet, not because it was the half-blown-up Death Star from ANH.

When the MF was being pulled towards the Death Star in ANH, i always thought that Vader was using the Force. All those years, i always imagined Vader standing there in the docking bay with his hand outstreched, using the Force to pull the MF into the Death Star.
Apparently, i missed Han's "We're caught in its tractor beam!" line. blush

laugh That one is truly a gem. I can picture Vader standing in docking bay 327 and pulling the Falcon in.

In ROTJ when the Emporer says "I feel you anger" I thought he said "I feel your egg err" and I was like why is he feeling his egg?

Also when the dock comnader goes "Inform the commander Lord Vader's shuttle has arrived" I though he said "Inform the commander Lord Vader's shell has arrived" and I though do they call that ship a shell?

I though Chewie was related to the ewoks.

I though the snow troopers were scary as they wore tea towles (dish cloths) on their head.

When C-3PO goes "dont leave me" and bumps into a droid against the wall in Jabba's palace I thought it was his mum, but now dead and just kept on show.

When Lando shouts to Han "Just a little higher, just a little higher"! I thout he said "Just at the lair, just at the lair", and I though why would he want him to shoot Jabba's lair.

I thought the searchlights were sabres too!

Also on the VHS version of ROTJ before the film 20th Century Fox promote their films and tv shows with the star wars soundtrack playing and when it builds up the imperial march in a black and white film a man walks down the stairs and it cuts to darth vader on the tantive IV and I thought the bloke in the black and white film got turned into darth vader.

I remember early in 1980 before ESB was released, a friend of mine got a magazine with some publicity stills, which included pix of the snowtroopers. I thought they were the Ku Klux Klan.

I remember seeing publicity stills of the Tattooine scene involving Biggs and Luke, and reading that scene in the book and comic book adaption. I read the comic book so much when I was a kid (this was before VHS and before HBO showed the movie) that it changed my memories of the movie,,,,,I could swear I saw that scene was actually in ANH. When the movie was finally shown on HBO around 1980 or 1981 I was shocked that those scenes weren't in it and never had been, which is dumb, since I saw the movie 4 times in 1977 and at least 2 more time when it was re-released in '78,,,you'da thunk I would've remembered that the scene wasn't in the darn movie! I guess that's more of a weird memory than a misconception, but take it as you will.

Actually, I also had some false memories about Star Wars up until I was about 7, probably from the picture books, or getting them confused with other movies.

I seem to remember the opening Logo being in red. I also have an odd memory of getting Admiral Motti's POV after Vader force-chokes him, and seeing Vader in that weird, '70s, "mesmerized," wobbly-vision.

I think the second time I saw ANH I was paying more attention to the opening scroll. When I saw that it read "EpisodeIV" I thought George Lucas had already made episodes one through three and we had missed them.

Me too! ESB came out when I was about four, and I was just starting to read, but I didn't know the Roman Numerals...so I asked my dad, and he told me it meant '5' and I was mad the rest of the night because I wouldn't believe there wasn't a 1,2, and 3. I thought he just didn't want to rent a vcr and the tapes so I could see them. (remember that, when you rented the videotapes AND a vcr?)

I thought the Death Star was actually a moon, too, a very cold one...

Obi-Wan: That snow moon...

I also remembered thinking that Obi-Wan would have been mad when Leia kissed Luke, because Luke was studying to become a priest and priests aren't supposed to kiss girls. (I equated Jedi=priest for some reason)

Grand Moff Tarkin was Granpa Tarkin. I figured he was Vader's dad.

I also remember thinking that Yoda must be Kermit's grampa or something. My mind mixed up Kermit singing "It's not easy being green" and Yoda, so when I rewatched the films for the first time years later, I remembered that he had a funny way of talking but I thought he sang everything.

That's all I can remember right now...

This is a great thread!

It wasnt a misconception exactly, but back in 1977 at a wee young age of 8 my mother had to DRAG me to see the film. I did *SO* not want to see it. I thought it was going to be boring and dull.

To be fair, the trailers were complete crap. But boy, I couldnt have been more wronmg.

She also had to drag me kicking and screaming to see my first James Bond movie too - Moonraker I believe. After that I just gave in and learned to trust her on these things.
