I used to think that "the Hutt" was Jabba's last name, not his species. I'm sure there are more as well, I just can't really think that well at 2:54 in the morning.

[quote=VadersLaMent]I think the second time I saw ANH I was paying more attention to the opening scroll. When I saw that it read "EpisodeIV" I thought George Lucas had already made episodes one through three and we had missed them.

Was "EPISODE IV" in the opening scroll of the 1977 release? Something tells me it wasn't; that the opening scroll said simply "STAR WARS" followed by "It is a period of civil war."

When ESB came out in '80, my whole family had the same reaction to the scroll "EPISODE V." We all went "Huh?" And then, either later that year or the next, ANH came out in the theaters again, and THEN it had the subtitle "EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE."

Can anybody who was around back then verify this for me, or is it a "misconception I had as a kid?"

Yeah STAR WARS did'nt have 'episode IV' or 'A New Hope' upon the original release in '77.
It was added for another release in '79 or '80 (right before ESB).... something like that.
The studio would'nt let GL put that on.....

EPISODE IV
A NEW HOPE

was added to the 1981 re-release, though it could be seen in the script published in the book The Art of Star Wars in 1978.

When I was a kid, I used to think lightsabers were lightsavers and they electrocuted you when you were hit with them. I also thought Vader was Boba's dad when he said "He's no use to me dead (or Dad?)". I thought Luke killed Vader on Dagobah and that the Stormtroopers were robots. I was a very confused child by he time Ep. V finished!

Always thought Han Solo was Luke's brother and that when Yoda said `There is another' in ESB, that's who he was talking about.

I remember thinking that on the Jawa sandcrawler the silver droid (the one Kenner called "Death Star Droid") helped R2 find 3PO.

I used to think that Vader was some really really really old guy because in ANH when Leia says "only you could be so bold" I thought that she said "only you could be so old"

But she's still pretty, if you ignore the lip thing.

BTW I have no misconceptions that I can remember, but when my parents were watching it with me my mom thought Chewie was gonna convince the Ewoks that he was their king or something.

Ya, in episode IV (which i first saw when i was 2) when the falcon lands on the death star and vader says "i want every part of this ship checked" i thought he said he wants every part of the ship CHIPPED happy
i was confused by that for the longest time until i asked my dad why darth vader would want to chip the ship shock
OH YA also in episode V when luke cuts open the bottom of the AT-AT walker and throws a charge in, I thought he threw his lightsaber in it and it exploded some how!

I didn't watch Star Wars til my teens so didn't have any childhood misconceptions, but did have a "Duh!" moment when I first watched ROTJ, having not seen it for years - I didn't realise it had been remastered and redone a little in light of the PT and thought first of all, the CG in those scenes of people celebrating at the end is REALLY good given that it was the 80's (Duh!), and then that the force ghost of Anakin was uncannily like Hayden Christensen....then it clicked...I felt a little stupid!

doh!

No movie confused me more than Return of the Jedi as a kid.

Star Wars was pretty clear cut except trying to figure out why Kenobi just disappeared. Not to mention why he just gave up and let Vader slash him.

Empire Strikes Back was awesome and I had no misconceptions.

BTW, I saw SW and Empire on HBO, and perhaps Empire in the theater (vague memories being 3 at the time). Jedi I was the ripe old age of six and perfect for the marketing giant which was Lucas/Kenner.

Return of the Jedi. Oh boy. To biggies and both of them dealing with the early part with Jabba the Hut.

BOOBS!!! I still think I was most fascinated by that alien dancing girl's boob that flopped out when Jabba was tugging on her.

When Jabba hit the trap button for some reason I thought she ended up in Jabba's fish bowl and he ate her. Later on I understood it was some alien frog he was eating and that she was dropped into the Rancor pit for ignoring his advances.

YODA. What was he saying when he was dying? I still didn't understand what he was saying until I put on the subtitles on the released dvds.

EWOKS. They weren't cute and I didn't like them. Was I the only six year old in America who cheered when the one Ewok died? My four year old sister cried, but I was happy those furrballs were getting blasted. I hating those things taking away from my boys Chewie and R2-D2.

My bad. I meant to say I thought Leia said "Scruffy looking Nerve hurter"

To be fair, that's a line that is easy to get wrong. I mean, nobody knows what a "Nerf Herder" is anyway.

Actually, I do. It's on wookiepedia. "Nerf-Herder" became a popular insult on Alderaan because of wierd creatures named Nerfs that live there, so it became a poular insult to herd them.
